Chapter 59
“I won’t get a divorce, and I certainly won’t marry Annabelle. If you want her, you should marry her yourself.”
Simon’s face twisted in shock and anger. “What on earth are you saying?”
Cameron gave a cold smile. “At the end of the day, all you really want is an heir for the Dorsey family. What difference does it make whether it’s you or me who marries her?”
“You”
Grace was furious too. “So you don’t even care about me now, is that it? You’d rather have your father marry Annabelle? And where does that leave me?”
Cameron turned away, exasperated. “Mom, Dad, I’m an adult. I have my own life. Cassie is the woman I’ve chosen, and she’s the only one I’ll ever marry. Why do you insist on tearing us apart?”
“Is that so? You love her, huh? Then, tell me, if you love her so much, why did you let Annabelle get pregnant?”
Cameron fell silent.
Simon gave a cold snort. “So much for true love. You don’t seem as devoted as you make yourself seem.”
“I was with Annabelle because-”
“Because what?” Simon pressed. “She looks nothing like Cassandra. She’s sweet and gentle, not temperamental like Cassandra, and completely different in every way. So, why her? Don’t tell me you were still thinking about Cassandra all the while you were with Annabelle?”
Cameron closed his eyes. He suddenly felt completely powerless.
It was his bitterness over what happened with Cassandra and Javier that had driven him to Annabelle in the first place.
He’d thought, when it was all over, that he’d simply pay Annabelle off and the knot in his heart would be gone. Then, he could be at peace with Cassandra again.
But everything since had gone wildly out of control.
Annabelle’s pregnancy was something he never expected, and it had thrown all his plans into
chaos.
His parents‘ schemes had nearly ruined Cassandra. When one plot failed, they tried another, and now, even Snowball was poisoned.
Cassandra had already wanted to leave. Now, reconciliation seemed further away than ever.
Chapter 59.
Just then, the phone rang.
None of the staff were in the living room, so Grace picked up the phone herself. “Hello?”
Annabelle’s voice came through the line. “Mrs. Dorsey, how did it go? Did you use the method I told you and Mr. Dorsey about? Is that dog dead yet?”
In the dead of night, the house was silent. Although Annabelle’s voice was soft, her words were clear, echoing through the entire living room.
Cameron’s head snapped up, his eyes full of disbelief and icy anger.
Grace tried to cover for her. “Oh, Annabelle, it’s rather late. Simon and I have already gone to bed. Let’s talk about it tomorrow, shall we? I’ll just hang up-

“Wait, Mrs. Dorsey. Sorry to disturb you so late, but the baby’s been restless all evening, and I couldn’t sleep without knowing for sure. Just tell me. What happened to that dog? If it’s not dead yet, I have another poison. I can bring it to you another time.”
“Annabelle, listen. Cameron is—”
“Mrs. Dorsey, I know you’re worried about Cameron. That dog meant a lot to Cameron, and of course, he’ll be upset for a while. But if we don’t give Cassandra a proper warning, how will we ever get her to agree to the divorce?
“My belly’s getting bigger by the day. I can’t exactly walk down the aisle in a wedding dress like this, can I?”
Grace fell silent.
“Hello? Mrs. Dorsey, are you there?”
“It’s me.” Cameron had already taken the phone, his voice low and cold. “Annabelle, how did you get the nerve to go after Snowball?”
“Cameron? What are you doing there? I thought you were at your place. Why are you suddenly
Cameron took a deep breath. “Were you involved in the trap that was set for Cassandra?”
Annabelle was speechless.
“Answer me!”
Annabelle’s voice trembled, and she was on the verge of tears. “I only wanted my chil

a father. I didn’t want my baby to be branded a bastard the moment it was born. Is that so wrong?”
Cameron let out a cold laugh. “Annabelle, I truly underestimated you.”
