Chapter 61
“Urine,” Cassandra said. “I got one of the guys to help me out. It confuses the mind but does no harm, and it’s just disgusting enough to deal with someone with a filthy mouth like his.”
On her way out, Cassandra even looked at Ryan and said, “Thank you, senior. You’re a good
person.”
Ryan never really knew why, but those words stuck with him from that day on. He could still remember her tone, her expression, and the way she walked off with her chin held high in triumph.
It had been 15 years, and still, he remembered it all.
But it seemed that he was the only one who remembered. She had completely forgotten.
“Why…”
Suddenly, Cassandra began to cry. Whatever she was dreaming about, it was something heartbreaking. Even in sleep, she sobbed and wept, her tears streaming down her cheeks.
He searched all over the car for a tissue, but when he couldn’t find one, he gently turned out the soft lining of his shirt to wipe away her tears.
“Cameron… Cameron…”
Ryan’s hand paused for a moment.
Even after he had betrayed her, Cameron was still the name she called out in her dreams. Did she truly love Cameron that much?
He was the one who met her first. The one who loved her first. Was it simply because he’d been too slow to confess, and Cameron had already taken a place in her heart?
He couldn’t accept that. How could he possibly be content with that?
“Let go of me! Don’t touch me! Cameron, let go of me! Ryan, help me…”
Cassandra jolted awake from her nightmare.
Everything was pitch black, save for a faint ray of moonlight across her.
She was still lost in the terror of her dream, breathing heavily, and was unable to calm herself for a long while.
“Where am I?” she finally managed to ask.
Ryan answered, “My house. Don’t worry. Cameron isn’t here.”
She visibly relaxed. “Good.”
Chapter 61
“What were you dreaming about just now?”
“Nothing.”
“Did Cameron try to hurt you in the dream?”
Cassandra leaned back, closing her eyes with a tired sigh. “I dreamt that Annabelle was trying to kill me, and Cameron was dragging me over to let her do it.”
She let out a mocking laugh. “Ridiculous, isn’t it?”
“It’s not ridiculous at all,” Ryan replied. “All I could see was how hurt and helpless you felt.”
Cassandra gathered herself a little and said in a low voice, “Actually, I can be pretty fierce. You probably don’t know this, but I once beat up a guy in secondary school. He was my senior, and I turned his face into a right mess!”
Ryan looked down. “I know.”
She was surprised. “Did Cameron tell you? But he wasn’t even there at the time. He only heard
about it from me. I didn’t even know him back then.”

But as she spoke, her voice grew melancholic. “I used to be tough. Why am I so useless now? Even in my dreams, I’m bullied by Cameron and Annabelle, totally powerless to fight back.”
“It was only a dream, and it’s the other way round. You’re still incredibly strong.”
Cassandra gave a bitter smile. “Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about who I am. It’s almost like, ever since I married Cameron, I stopped being myself.
“His parents disapproved of me, so I tried so hard to be the perfect daughter–in–law and the ideal wife. But that was never really me. I feel like I’ve been trapped in a cage, just playing a
role.”
“And now?”
“Now, I’m finally getting divorced. I suppose I’m almost free.”
She turned to look at Ryan. “Mr. Scott, you promised you’d help me with the divorce. You’re not going to back out, are you?”
