Cameron watched Annabelle swallow the pill before setting off for the airport immediately.
He had planned to stay until the abortion was complete, but the doctors warned him that the medication’s effects varied. Some women passed the fetus within an hour, while others took
four to five hours.
After doing the math, Cameron realized that waiting wasn’t an option if he wanted to make his flight, so he arranged for several caregivers to stay with Annabelle. He then left for Stokelle.
By the time he arrived, it was already nighttime.
The car sped along the riverside and passed a bustling crowd gathered along the water. Brilliant fireworks exploded in the sky above the river, dazzling and impossible to look away
from.
The sight of it made Cameron rub his brow. “Is today some kind of holiday?” he asked.
The driver also looked puzzled. “I don’t think it is. It’s probably some trust–fund baby blowing a fortune to impress a girl.”
Cameron let out a short, dismissive laugh. How tacky.
These trust–fund babies were getting worse by the day. Honestly, did they think a few fireworks were enough to win a woman’s heart?
He scoffed. “If a woman’s crying her heart out over some fireworks, then she’s not worth much. Fireworks barely cost a dime, and that’s all it takes to move her?”
The driver chuckled. “Well, Mr. Dorsey, is there a woman who doesn’t like fireworks?”
“But Cassie isn’t like that,” Cameron retorted. “She’s cultured and thoughtful. She wouldn’t be swayed by such cheap theatrics.”
Then, the driver gave a knowing laugh. “Well, she is your wife, after all, and such tricks wouldn’t impress her. Congratulations, by the way. I heard she’s expecting.”
The driver worked for the Dorsey Group’s Stokelle branch. He was entirely out of the loop about headquarters politics and Cameron’s private life.
Hearing that, Cameron’s expression stiffened slightly. “Who told you that my wife is pregnant?”
The driver lit up, proud to share the news. “Everyone in the company’s talking about it! The chairman even handed out bonuses to all the employees as a way to wish blessings for Mrs. Dorsey and the newborn child!”

Cassandra, Simon was trying to make Annabelle’s position official.
“The one who’s pregnant isn’t my wife. My wife is currently in Stokelle. I came here to take her home,” he coldly said.”
The driver’s eyes widened. “If the pregnant one is not your wife, then… is she your mistress?”
The word mistress instantly ignited Cameron’s rage. “No, she isn’t!” he snapped.
Startled, the driver shrank back and didn’t dare utter another word.
In that moment, Cameron felt a strange sense of relief. It was good that Annabelle had come to her senses and terminated the pregnancy. At least things hadn’t spiraled beyond repair.
He pulled out his phone and called Harold.
“Don’t worry, Mr. Dorsey,” Harold said. “The room’s ready. Mrs. Dorsey is going to love it.”
Hearing that, Cameron calmed down a little. “Prepare a bottle of red wine and have it sent to the room, too.”
“Right away,” Harold cheerfully replied. He assumed that it was just to set the mood for the evening, but Cameron had a backup plan.
He knew Cassandra’s temper better than anyone. She seemed outwardly gentle, but she was stubborn to the core. A simple apology probably wouldn’t work.
If she were willing to drink that bottle of red wine, that would be great. But if she still refused to forgive him, he’d smash the bottle and drop to his knees on the shards.
They had been together for 15 years. Cameron didn’t believe that Cassandra could just watch him hurt himself like that.
Even if she didn’t forgive him right away, she’d at least pull him up. And from there, well… the night would be long, and their feelings were deep
By morning, any anger or misunderstanding would melt away in the tender night. The thought of it stirred something in Cameron, and his body reacted before his mind could even catch up.
