Chapter 89
Cameron was burning up, so he rolled down the windows to let the cool night breeze wash over him and calm his simmering temper.
Just then, the driver asked, “Mr. Dorsey, if you’re feeling hot, should I turn on the air conditioning?”
Cameron’s heated little fantasy was abruptly cut short. Irritated, he snapped, “Just shut up and drive.”
Outside the car, the fireworks over the river were growing more elaborate and dazzling by the second. Countless woman gasped in awe, their delighted murmurs filling the air.
One woman’s voice stood out as she said, full of admiration, “If a man ever set off fireworks all night along the river just for me, I’d marry him on the spot.”
Cameron scoffed in disdain. How shallow. These people had no concept of real romance.
He had once gifted Cassandra an asteroid, as eternal as the universe itself. That was love with meaning, not these fleeting bursts of light that faded into nothingness.
Just then, his phone rang again. It was Harold.
“Mr. Dorsey, Mrs. Dorsey doesn’t seem to be at the hotel right now!”
Cameron’s expression immediately darkened. “She’s not there? Where is she, then?”
Harold sounded slightly panicked. “I’m not entirely sure… The front desk said that she left around noon with Mr. Scott and hasn’t returned since.”
Cameron suddenly remembered. He’d heard earlier that Cassandra had gone out with Ryan, but he hadn’t thought much of it at the time. He’d been too caught up with Annabelle, and
Ryan was someone he trusted.
Still, taking her out during the day was one thing. Not coming back at night was a different
matter entirely.
Cameron hung up immediately and called Ryan. The call connected quickly.
“Hello? Ryan, where are you right now?”
Ryan’s voice was relaxed and even a little smug. “I’m by the river, watching fireworks.”
“With whom?”
“With my date.”
Hearing that, Cameron exhaled slowly. “Sorry. It sounds like I interrupted your date again.”
Ryan laughed. “It’s fine. Just don’t do it next time.”

“Right. I’ll try to avoid calling. I’m in Stokelle now, but Harold told me you took Cassie out earlier, and she still hasn’t returned. Do you know where she is?”
Ryan gave a noncommittal hum. “The fireworks are gorgeous tonight. She’s probably watching them too.”
“Come on, Ryan.” Cameron’s tone turned serious “I’m worried about her. Stop joking around. Do you not know where she is?”
In the background, a woman’s voice mumbled, “Who is it?”
“Cameron,” Ryan replied.
The woman groaned in annoyance. “Him again?”
Ryan sighed helplessly. “I’ll block his number after this.”
Cameron chuckled wryly. “Sorry, Ryan. Enjoy your date. I’ll find her myself.”
“Okay. I’m hanging up.”
The call ended abruptly before Cameron could even lift his finger off the screen. He shook his head with a faint smile. He had interrupted their romantic evening.
Once he found Cassandra and convinced her to forgive him, he would take her straight back to Hannover. There was no way he was going to third–wheel his best friend’s date.
