Chapter 98

Cassandra didn’t have much of an appetite. After eating, she quietly offered, I’ll sleep on the couch.”

Ryan looked like he wanted to say something, but hesitated. In the end, he nodded without a word

She knew what he had wanted to bring up. It was something about what had happened at Royal Skyline Tower tonight

But Cassandra didn’t want comfort right now, and she didn’t need any sarcasm. All she needed now was a bit of silence

Thankfully, Ryan didn’t push. He simply told her to get some rest and disappeared into the bedroom

Cassandra had no idea how long she tossed and turned on the couch before finally drifting off to sleep

In her dreams, she found herself reliving what had happened earlier. But this time, she was the one standing on the rooftop

The wind howled, and the rain poured down in icy sheets. It lashed at her body, and with the wind’s sting, each raindrop felt like a blade slicing through her skin

Reporters surrounded her, shouting questions as cameras flashed. Mrs. Dorsey, how do you feel about Mr. Dorsey’s public engagement to Ms. Green?”

Cassandra’s mind was a mess. She didn’t have an answer

A policeman clung to her hand, desperately trying to pull her back. Mrs. Dorsey! Whatever’s happened, we can talk it through! Don’t do anything reckless!”

She wasn’t sure how she had ended up here and only asked, Where’s Cameron?”

Suddenly, the crowd parted, forming a narrow path. Cameron emerged, carrying Annabelle in his arms. He walked past her without even sparing a glance at her

Cassandra called out to him, Cameron!”

But he didn’t hear her. He held Annabelle close and walked quickly through the crowd, disappearing among them

Then, Cassandra’s phone rang, snapping her awake. Only then did she realize that Stokelle had been engulfed in a torrential downpour for quite some time

The window was left open, and the couch was placed right beside the bed. The night wind, carrying fine threads of rain, had blown inside and splashed onto her face and body

Cassandra rubbed her aching temples. It was no wonder she dreamed about being on a rooftop. She had been drenched by the rain all along

Her phone was ringing insistently. It was Daisy

Daisy was calling her this late? Was she stuck in the rain without an umbrella

She answered, Daisy?”

Silence

Daisy?Cassandra asked again

There was still no response

Cassandra pulled the phone away to check. The signal bar was full

Daisy, can you hear me? It’s late. What’s going on? You’re scaring me.”

Cassandra. It’s me.”

Cameron’s voice came through. It was faint and unclear, drowned by the sound of heavy wind and rumbling thunder

Where’s Daisy?Cassandra demanded. What did you do to her again? Cameron, whatever issues we have, can you leave Daisy out of this?”

Then, the other end went silent again

Hello? Hello!”

There was a crackle of static before Daisy’s voice finally came through. Cassandra, I was the one who helped him call you.”

Cassandra was stunned. You-”

I was in a meeting with the director and some of the actors. Cameron was downstairs, standing in the rain for four hours straight.”

Daisy gave a soft sigh. I told him everything that happened back then.”

As soon as those words left her mouth, both ends of the call fell utterly silent
