Chapter 14
Both Lucas and Nathan froze at Sophia’s words.
Three months of searching. Three months of barely sleeping, even spending Christmas on the road.
And now she was looking at them like complete strangers.
Their hearts sank.
Nathan snapped angrily:“Sophia, what’s this supposed to mean? You’re pretending not to know us?”
Sophia tilted her head, genuinely confused: “Should I know you?”
Seeing her continued confusion, both men slowly began to calm down.
They suddenly felt ridiculous.
One twitter post had sent them chasing across the country.
Barely eating, barely sleeping, worried sick about her.
And now she was treating them like strangers.
Nathan clenched his fists and pulled up their marriage certificate on his phone, fighting to keep his voice steady.
Ring any bells? I’m your husband.”
ophia stared at the photo. It was definitely her and this man.
he stared for a long moment, trying to recall anything about him but nothing came back.
in elderly woman beside her glanced at the photo and whispered, “Young people can fake anything with computers
hese days, honey. You’re so pretty–he might be trying to trick you into marriage.”
fearing that, Sophia frowned, studying the man. Sharp features, expensive suit.
He looked rough–unshaven, exhausted–but handsome enough.
he whispered back, “But he doesn’t look desperate.”
You never know! Some men look decent but have black hearts.”
he woman spoke loud enough for Nathan to hear.
lis face went dark: “I don’t need to trick anyone.”

However, Sophia took the woman’s advice. “This woman does look like me, but how do I know it’s not
photo shopped?”
Nathan’s jaw tightened, his stare burning into her.
“What? Sophia, say that again?!”
Was she seriously going to fake amnesia?
His voice rose sharply, startling a small child into tears.
The grandmother scooped up the crying child and started cursing under her breath.
“What’s wrong with you? Don’t you know how to speak like a human being? You scared my grandson–if he gets sick from this, I’ll make you pay!”
Sophia quickly moved to calm the situation: “It’s okay, it’s okay. I’ll get them to leave.”
She pulled both men aside: “What do you want? I don’t know you.”
Lucas had been studying her face. And his heart suddenly dropped: “Sophia, you really don’t remember me?”
Her confusion looked real. No recognition at all.
He used to catch her every lie–her eye would twitch when she wasn’t being honest.
But watching her now, he saw no deception.
She’d… actually forgotten them.
Lucas pulled out his phone and opened her old blog. “Sophia, look. We’re Lucas and Nathan. Does any of this ring a bell?”
