“Dad? I have a father?” Sophia sounded confused.
Before she could process it, a photo fell from her jacket.
It showed her with a man around sixty, both smiling and holding hands.
And on the back was written:
[This is my dad and me. If I forget him someday, please call my lawyer.]
Staring at the photo, Sophia went still. Then she dialed the number..
That’s how she found out she had a father.
Remembering the panic in Margaret’s voice, she jumped out of bed and ran for the door.
Her lawyer was already waiting in the hallway.
“I’m David Miller, your attorney. Margaret called me. Let’s go find your father.”
Sophia nodded. “Let’s go.”
Without a glance at Lucas or Nathan, she followed David to his car.
Both men also got in their own cars with silence and followed behind.
Soon the car stopped at the village entrance.
David led Sophia up the mountain on foot.
Seeing the familiar streets, fragments of memory stirred in Sophia’s mind.
The deeper they went, the rougher the path became. They were leaving civilization behind.
Lucas and Nathan’s unease grew with every step.
When David kept pushing into the wilderness, they exchanged glances and moved to block his path and both asked:
“Where are you taking her?”
This place was isolated–God knew what kind of wildlife was out here. If they ran into bears or mountain lions, the four of them wouldn’t stand a chance.
“Just ask your girlfriends where I’m taking her.”

With cold voice, David didn’t even look at them, just kept walking with Sophia.
He’d taken her case because it seemed straightforward, and she was young. But this was turning into way more drama than he’d expected.
“What girlfriends?” Both men looked confused.
David ignored them and kept climbing.
Lucas and Nathan had no choice but to follow.
Suddenly, Sophia slowed to a stop and called out to David.
‘Mr. Miller, we’re looking for my father, right?”
David turned around. “Yes. You remember now?”
Sophia nodded. “Yeah, it’s all coming back.”
Good. Don’t ask questions–just follow me to the top.”
