“It’s you two?!” Sophia felt shocked seeing Lily and Summer here.
She knew they had issues with her, but she never thought they’d drag her father into it.
Lucas and Nathan felt dread settling in their stomachs, they both also asked with shock:
“Lily, Summer–what the hell are you doing here?”
At the same time, the two women opened the mouth, too: “How are you two here?!”
Lily and Summer exchanged surprised looks.
They’d clearly expected to handle this without the two men showing up but why they are still here?!
Then their phones rang at the same time:
‘Ma’am, sorry–couldn’t reach Mr. Mitchell/Sterling…”
After hanging up, both women looked pissed–their diversions had failed.
‘What now?” Lily hissed at Summer.
She’d always played the sweet girlfriend with Lucas. Now he was seeing her true colors.
Summer was equally furious. Too many witnesses had screwed up their plan.
She whispered, “We bail. Nathan will call the cops.”
Before Lily could answer, Sophia yelled:
Lily, let my dad go!”
Sophia’s heart hammered as dread flooded through her.
She expected them to use her father against her, but Summer suddenly wheeled him forward and answered loudly:
‘Let him go? We just found your dad wandering around! We just didn’t want him getting hurt!”
Sophia’s hands clenched. She wasn’t buying it.
Her father chimed in: “Sophia, sweetie, they’re not lying. They bought me lunch and brought me up here to see the view. It’s gorgeous.”
“See? Your dad gets it,” Summer said with a saccharine smile. “I’ll visit you again soon, Mr. Williams.”

“Yes, please do!” Dad beamed, then noticed Sophia’s expression. His face fell. “Are you mad? I won’t go out anymore if you don’t want me to.”
Sophia pulled him into a hug, tears stinging her eyes: “Dad, promise me you won’t go anywhere with strangers.”
“I promise. But they’re not strangers–they said they were your friends.”
His voice had that childlike confusion she’d grown to know.
Sophia brushed away tears: “Dad, they’re not my friends.”
Seeing her cry sent him into a panic. “Okay, okay! Whatever you say. Please don’t be sad.”
That only made her cry harder. “Just promise you’ll remember!”
After her father’s answer, Sophia just saw her phone buzzed with threatening messages and that made her hands
hake.
Lily and Summer had taken Dad to manipulate her. She just didn’t get why they’d backed down.
But Dad was safe. That’s all that mattered.
‘olice sirens wailed up the mountain. Officers moved in on Lily and Summer:
You’re both under arrest for kidnapping and terrorist threats.
