Chapter 5
Looking at Nathan’s signature on the divorce papers, Sophia couldn’t help asking, “Don’t you want to know what you just signed?”
Nathan let out a cold laugh, “What could you possibly want me to sign? A napkin?”
He directly tossed the papers back at her, then pulled the girl closer, headed toward the guest room, leaving Sophia standing there alone.
She watched them disappear down the hallway, feeling nothing but emptiness.
Now, she only needed to finished her handover at the hospital, they’d both be free.
Back in her room, Sophia fell asleep quickly.
In that night’s dream, she and Dad had gone back to the small town where she grew up. Their life was quiet and happy, everything was peaceful.
The next morning, after getting up, Sophia checked her blog like always, scanning through recent entries.
Right. She remembered, she’d quit her job. Just had to finish out the handover at the hospital.
So she immediately headed to her work place.
After arriving, she put on her white coat and sat down, ready to see patients.
Just then, a figure walked in.
‘Dr. Williams.”
At the familiar voice, Sophia looked up to see Lucas’s cold, distant expression.
She froze. “Lucas…”
‘When did you get back to the capital?”
The moment the words left her mouth, she remembered what she’d written in her private blog.
It suddenly hit her–Lucas had been back for a while now. He was currently the Executive President of Mitchell Corp.
“Since when is your memory this shot, Dr. Williams?”
After the taunt, Lucas shut the door behind him.

Sophia finally snapped back to reality, “Why are you here?”
“I’m here as a patient, obviously.”
Then Lucas sat down across from her.
Sophia kept her eyes down. “Mr. Mitchell, I’m a pediatrician. And you as an adult, if not feeling well, check with the front desk. They’ll direct you to the right department.”
But Lucas didn’t listen at all. He only grabbed her hand, pressing it against his chest.
“You used to treat me when I was sick before. Or did you forget that too?”
He unbuttoned his collar and slipped her hand inside his shirt.
Feeling his heartbeat, warm and steady, Sophia remembered how things used to be when they were together.
When Lucas sick with fever, her taking care of him. He always made her press her hand to his chest first before he’d take any medication..
The memory cut her heart deep.
She couldn’t help but explain: “Lucas… five years ago, I didn’t have a choice. My mom died, our family went bankrupt, and dad also got sick. I had to marry Nathan.”
Hearing that, Lucas laughed coldly. “Bankruptcy? Your family looks perfect fine to me. If you’re gonna lie, make it believable.”
A stab of pain hit her heart, leaving her speechless.
The Williams Industries only existed because Nathan owned it now.
Lucas moved her hand lower. She trembled under his touch, memories of their past flooding back.
With seeing she didn’t resist, Lucas grew holder.
Suddenly he saw the bruises on her neck. His face darkened and he yanked her hand away,
“Got a husband but still want to play with me?”
“Does your husband know you’re out here fooling around?”
Sophia went white. The words died in her throat.
Seeing her reaction, Lucas dropped an invitation on her desk.
“Lily and I are getting married next month. As her only friend before, don’t forget to come.”
