Chapter 7
Sophia opened her blog ready to document the day, but there was already a new entry.
*December 7th, 2024. Another gray day.
Hospital sent my test results today. Turns out I have severe depression. My memory’s just going to keep getting
worse.
Lucas has Lily and Nathan’s precious Summer is back. They both found their person. Now, I only have Dad, but I don’t even know how much longer I’ll remember him…*
She’d posted this just ten minutes ago and already forgotten about it.
Another sleepless night.
The next day, Sophia dragged herself through work and came home to find Lucas sitting on the couch, apparently waiting for her.
“Where’s our wedding photo?”
Sophia glanced toward the bedroom, looking confused for a moment before vaguely remembering she’d already thrown out the wedding photo.
“The frame broke. Just put it away until I get a new one.”
Nathan’s shoulders relaxed slightly.
“I’m going on a business trip for a week. No need to wait up for me.”
Sophia’s heart sank. Five years married, and Nathan had never traveled for business. Not once.
Now Summer just came back yesterday, he was breaking promises and lying to her face,
But she still nodded anyway and just said: “Okay.”
Only the loved ones get to be reckless. And she wasn’t that one.
All next week, Sophia watched Summer’s posts update at exactly ten PM–posts documenting her travels with
Nathan.
The two of them watching sunrise on mountain peaks, chasing northern lights in Iceland, surting in Tahiti…
They were doing everything Sophia had dreamed of doing with Nathan before she turned eighteen.
Then she saw Summer’s latest video.

Chapter 7
Nathan was on Promise Bridge, standing with Summer, and his voice soft: “Summer, when I love someone, I love them forever…”
Forever.
Hearing those words, Sophia’s eyes welled up as she remembered that night on her eighteenth birthday.
She’d waited alone outside the hotel all night!
Only to watch Nathan and Summer walk out hand in hand…
She closed Instagram and saw a message from Lily.
[Sophie! Lucas invited you to the wedding just like I asked! Look at my dress and our new house! I’m so happy!]
Then photos of wedding preparations filled her screen.
Sophia didn’t respond her.
On December 15th, the day before leaving.
Sophia finished her final handover at the hospital and arranged her father’s discharge paperwork. She’d pick him up tomorrow when they caught their train home.
As she was walking home alone, snow started falling.
Sophia stared at the drifting flakes, lost in thought.
She stood there for a long time, unmoving.
Suddenly, a voice came from behind her: “What are you doing here?”
linan pulled up beside her. The window rolled down, revealing Nathan’s sharp features.
ooked at him with confusion and also asked:“Why are you here?”
fearing that, Nathan frowned. He felt something was off with Sophia lately–she always seemed spaced out.
He’d told her he was coming back today. Why was she still acting confused?
Impatiently, he said: “My trip’s over. Get in, let’s go home.”
That’s when Sophia suddenly realized she’d forgotten why Nathan had gone on his business trip.
But she didn’t ask anything, then got into his car.
Whatever. She was leaving tomorrow anyway, his reasons didn’t matter anymore.

Chapter 7
Back at the house, Nathan hung up his coat and turned to her.
“The charity gala is tonight. We’re going together.”
At that moment, Sophia remembered she was leaving the city tomorrow.
“I don’t want to go. Take someone else. After all, you’ve always got options.”
Nathan frowned. “Didn’t you already agree to go? I told people you’d be there.”
Sophia stared at him blankly.
When had she agreed to that?
