Chapter 6
Jackson stopped dead in his tracks.
The boy in his arms rubbed his ears. “Daddy, I think I just heard my sister!”
Jackson narrowed his eyes, focusing intently on Ivy’s position, his gaze filled with scrutiny.
Mason felt a sense of foreboding wash over him. He quickly stepped in front of Ivy, cautiously explaining: “Mr. Reed, that’s my daughter. She’s misbehaving. and my wife is just disciplining her.”
But in the next moment, the boy in Jackson’s arms suddenly began struggling, pointing at a glimpse of the little girl’s arm visible beneath Ivy.
“Daddy, that’s my sister’s phoenix bracelet!”
The color instantly drained from Mason’s face.
Ivy immediately panicked and tried to deny it: “Mr. Reed, the young master must be mistaken. This little brat couldn’t possibly… AHHH!”
Before she could finish, Jackson kicked her squarely in the chest.
Ivy clutched her chest and curled up on the ground, letting out a piercing scream.
“Daddy!” Now free from restraint, the little girl scrambled to her feet and stumbled into Jackson’s arms, sobbing uncontrollably.
Seeing his daughter’s swollen face and the bruises where she’d been pinched, Jackson-a devoted father-immediately reddened with fury. He removed his jacket to wrap around his trembling daughter, holding her tightly.
Well-trained bodyguards rushed forward to restrain Ivy, dislocating the hands that had harmed his daughter.
Her screams split the air.
After comforting his daughter, Jackson stepped on Ivy’s head, rage swirling in his eyes, his voice cold as ice: “Who gave you permission to touch my daughter? You’re not worthy!”
Ivy’s face was ground against the floor, her entire body shaking with terror. “Mr. Reed, I didn’t know she was your daughter. I’m sorry, please spare me…”
But Jackson ignored her pleas, pressing down harder with his foot.
Suddenly, his daughter tugged at his sleeve.
‘Daddy, please save Mommy! They locked her in the cold storage!”
Hearing this, the project managers turned deathly pale, trembling uncontrollably.
Mason collapsed to the ground, struck by the revelation as if by lightning. He trembled, mumbling in disbelief: “Impossible! How could Natalie be Mrs. Reed? The daughter should have been mine…”
Jackson paid him no attention. After handing his daughter to his assistant, he turned to command his bodyguards: “Don’t let anyone here escape. Watch them carefully. I’ll deal with them after I bring my wife back!”
With that, he rushed toward the cold storage unit without a backward glance.
When he saw me curled up in the corner, barely breathing, Jackson’s breath caught in his throat. His hands trembled violently.
With trembling arms, he gathered me into his arms, his voice hoarse with emotion: “Darling, I’m sorry I was late. I’m so sorry you had to suffer.”
Feeling his familiar scent and warm embrace, my nearly frozen body gradually regained sensation.
I struggled to open my eyes, whispering weakly: “Honey… it hurts so much.”
Jackson carefully wiped away the filth covering my body, cradling me tenderly as he carried me to the rest area. His private physician rushed in to examine me and dress my wounds.
Both children cried out as they threw themselves into my arms.
