Chapter 4
Chapter 4
I took a deep breath, forcing myself to stay calm, but my fingertips wouldn’t stop trembling.
“Arnold, are you insane?”
I stared at him in disbelief. “You’re threatening me with our child’s safety? Isn’t it your own flesh and blood?”
He let out a derisive laugh, sweeping over my swollen belly.
“Go ahead and terminate the pregnancy if you’re so tough!”
He even deliberately brought up the hospital information: “36 weeks along-which hospital would dare perform a late-term abortion?”
A chill ran through my body, but I suddenly smiled.
You’re right, I can’t terminate, but I can choose divorce.”
‘Divorce?”
sarah immediately shrieked, “Then you have to return the $20,000 wedding gift first! And the money our family spent building a house for your marriage!”
Wedding gift?”
turned to face the growing crowd of onlookers, deciding to give them a taste of their own medicine.
Everyone, please judge for yourselves-I received a $20,000 wedding gift but gave them $100,000, plus bought land and built several houses for their family.
Now they want me to return the wedding gift?”
I even spend tens of thousands every year honoring their distant relatives-aunts, uncles, and cousins they barely know. Haven’t I done enough?”
he crowd began to stir, with people whispering among themselves.
This is absolutely shameless…”
Oh my, if my daughter encountered in-laws like this, I’d be furious!”
Some men these days live off their wives and still act so righteous about it!”
That woman claims her brother’s wife mistreats her, but I recognize that bracelet on her wrist-it’s worth at least $50,000!”
1 security guard spoke up indignantly: “Why keep a man like this around? Miss, I support you!”
eeing the tide turn, Arnold’s expression changed.
Cecilia, must you twist the truth like this? My parents live in an old, run-down house while yours live it up in a big villa. Dare you say you treat everyone
airly?”
A leaky old house?”
interrupted his performance. “The three-story building we spent $80,000 to build just last year, with interior decoration more luxurious than my own Lome-you call that an old house?”
Besides, my parents earned their mansion through their own efforts. Instead of being jealous that they’re doing well, maybe you should reflect on why your >arents are so incompetent!”
At this point, I was breathing heavily while supporting my belly. “Since we’re laying everything bare today, Arnold-if we really can’t make this work, let’s livorce!”
Sarah’s eyes flashed with excitement, mixed with a hint of greed.
‘Cecilia! You can divorce if you want, but you must split all your earnings fifty-fifty! That’s what the law requires!”
“Besides, Arnold has spent plenty of money on you over the years.”
Just then, my assistant Lisa came running over urgently, holding a stack of documents.
