At this point, everyone knew what was going
The people who were on her side were
pissed.
“That’s messed up.”
“I would’ve gotten screwed.”
“Is this like a hate crime or something?”
“I can’t believe I go to school with someone
like that.”
Tiffany clutched Gavin’s sleeve, sobbing.
Gavin closed his eyes, then pushed her away.
He grabbed me and dragged me out.
At the staircase, I pulled away.
After creating space between us, I said, “Just
say it here.”
Gavin looked shocked, then tightened his jaw.
“Now that everything is clear, when are you
moving back?”

I stopped breathing, and turned to stare at
him.
“Why would I go back?”
He was taken aback, panicked like I was
going to misunderstand him.
“Mom and Dad miss you. Don’t you want to
see them?”
They worked all the time.
There was no direct connection between me
going home or not seeing them, but I said, “I’ll
see them when they get back.”
Gavin was out of excuses, and stood there
until I turned to leave.

Then I heard him mutter, “What about me? Do
you even know how much I miss you?”
I paused, and turned to see his bloodshot
eyes.
Gavin cornered me, pulling out his old bossy
attitude.
“It’s not safe for you to live alone.”
“Just drop it, you said your piece, just chill.”
“Drop it?” I said.
If I didn’t have proof, Tiffany would have
destroyed me.
Gavin brushed it off like it was nothing.

I closed my eyes and pushed back the heat.
“You’re the one who told me to stay away,
how come you changed your mind?”
“Yeah, I was wrong.”.
His eyes were burning, making me
uncomfortable.
“I don’t want you to be so far away.”
“I’ll break up with Tiffany, but you have to quit
your job and never go back!”
