Tiffany’s rep was trash and she was marked
in school.
She begged me for forgiveness, to drop the
charges.
She said she was from a poor family and I
should help her.
She was crying, almost kneeling to me.
But when I refused, she changed.
Г
“This is illegal!”
I said, “It’s my room, what do you care if I put
up a camera?”
“You are a stray dog that thinks it’s better
than everyone. Go back to where you belong.”
I laughed.
“You can’t live in this house, even though I
can. Does that make you mad?”
Her screaming almost burst my eardrums.
“Kayleen, you’re gonna pay!”
She wanted to sue me.
Г
Since I cut ties with Gavin, I hadn’t seen him.
Soon, the exam scores came out, and I
passed.
I moved my stuff back to town.
Old Mrs. Lewis said, “Kayleen, you came
back!”
I said, “I’m back as the village leader.”
After settling in, I passed out.
Knock knock.
I rubbed my eyes and said, “Who is it?”
“It’s Hunter,” someone said.
く
I jumped up and answered the door.
“What are you doing here?”
Hunter smiled.
“You’re out of it, I graduated. I got a job
here.”
I was shocked.
The last time we talked was over a year ago.
Hunter handed me a container.
“My grandma said you must be hungry. I
brought you food.”
I opened it up and started eating
Hunter and I started talking more.
He helped me pick up some stuff from the
city.
Even though I was in charge, I was busy.
I was cold but getting stronger.
One day, I saw Gavin.
He was wearing a black coat and a blue
scarf.
I used to knit that.
Last time, he let Tiffany burn it in front of me.
I looked away.
く
“Are you here to help Tiffany sue me?”
Gavin froze.
“Am I a bad person in your eyes?”
