Chapter 3

I sneered in my heart, but it didn’t show on my face.

On such a cold day, she demanded that someone drive for ten hours just to take her there. She truly never cared for her

foster father, who had always taken care of her wholeheartedly since she was young.

Just at that moment, Aydan led my little daughter Aleah downstairs.

Layla had just thought about speaking to him again, but I beat her to it and rejected her.

“No, Layla, the weather was too cold, and Aydan hasn’t been feeling well lately. I would worry if we drove for such a long

time.”

Layla looked at me incredulously, her eyes filled with tears: “Mom?! You worry about Dad, why don’t you worry about me?

So many things, do you expect me to carry them and take the bus?!”

I sighed and said helplessly, “But Layla, going to the countryside to visit your parents was your own choice. We can’t

expect your father to foot the bill for your choice. He has his own things to take care of…”

Aydan, who had just come downstairs, was completely confused. “Layla, where are you going?”

Layla felt guilty and did not dare to answer.

I explained the whole incident in detail.

Aydan, who has always had a good temper, turned red in the face after listening and said, “Layla, why do you bother with

such heartless parents? Have you ever thought about why they never came to see you when you were little, and now they

suddenly show up when you come of age? What do they want?”

Layla, who had never been scolded by us before, suddenly became temperamental: “In the past few years, their financial

situation was not good, so they didn’t come to see me. Now that their conditions have improved, they want to make it up

to me. Is there a problem with that? It’s you guys who are afraid that I won’t support you in your old age, constantly trying

to sow discord and disgust me!”

“You!!”

Aydan was so angry that he trembled. He suddenly slammed the table and managed to squeeze out a sentence: “I didn’t allow you to go to the countryside to see them!”

Layla, upon seeing this, showed a fearful expression. However, she firmly believed that we were not treating her sincerely, so how could she give up on going to the countryside to see her biological parents just because of Aydan’s few words of

obstruction?

Suddenly, Layla stomped her foot, as if she had made a certain decision. She picked up the bags and rushed out of the house, saying, “You want to stop our family reunion? No way! I must go home today!”

“Layla! The snow was too heavy, it was unsafe outside, come back to me!”

Watching Layla’s fleeing figure, Aydan picked up his coat and was about to chase after her, but I pulled him back, saying, “Let her go.”
