Chapter 8

Andrew saw Katherine’s pitch-black eyes staring at him without any warmth, and a sharp pang of pain suddenly crossed his mind.

He was about to speak when he was stopped by his friend. “Andrew, Katherine almost caused Sarah to lose her baby this time. If you let her off so easily, you’re spoiling her too much.”

As soon as the words fell, everyone echoed in unison.

“Andrew pitied her for being unable to have children and being so old that no one wanted her, so he reluctantly agreed to marry her. But she couldn’t be content and dared to bully others like this, she was simply outrageous!”

“Sarah loved to eat durian, so why not have Katherine immediately peel ten of them by hand as an apology!”

“Andrew, if you didn’t teach Katherine a lesson, the next time could very well end up with two lives lost!”

One corpse, two lives, four words, made the reluctance in Andrew’s eyes fade away, replaced by a cold and stern expression. “Someone, bring in ten durians!”

“Andrew, you can’t.” Sarah gently reminded with a smile in her eyes, “You forgot, Ms. Duncan is allergic to the smell of durian, remember? It could be life-threatening for her!”

Andrew looked shocked and hesitated for a few seconds before saying, “Someone is here…”

“My stomach hurts so much,” Sarah suddenly bent over in pain and moaned, “It seems like I’m bleeding again

down there…”

The woman cried her heart out, but there were no tears, it was obvious that she was faking it.

“Someone, quickly call a doctor!” Andrew anxiously shouted, “Katherine, you didn’t peel enough durians today, you are not allowed to leave!”

Katherine laughed bitterly, tears streaming down her face.

She was once forced to drink durian juice by the customers at the bar in order to raise money for his medical treatment. She was then rushed to the emergency room for rescue.

Andrew never left her side, and later he even took the initiative to write down her allergy to durian in his

notebook.

He said… he would never let her suffer such injustice again.

But today, he, in order to vent his anger on Sarah, went so far as to torture her with durian. He was really

ruthless!

Haha, he was just pretending to be a caring husband, he didn’t really care about her.

How did she forget again?

Andrew loved Sarah, whether she was eighteen or twenty-four years old.

The strong smell of durian in the room made Katherine struggle to breathe and she was about to faint.

She endured a tremendous dizziness and, with her bare hands, pried open the durian’s tough shell, laboriously peeled out the pale yellow flesh and placed it on a plate.

One, two.

Countless durian shadows appeared before Katherine’s eyes, her nails dug out bloodstains, and she still

didn’t hear Andrew shout to stop.

She felt disheartened and allowed herself to be enveloped by a strong sense of suffocation as she continued to peel the durian.

Three, five.

Her breathing started to become extremely rapid, and she heard Sarah’s concerned voice saying, “Andrew, Ms. Duncan looks very uncomfortable, you should call her back quickly.”

“If we continue to peel, I’m afraid she will get into trouble!”

“Sarah, you were too kind. This old woman was clearly pretending to be sick!” Andrew’s friend said, “Katherine, your trick of playing the victim won’t work on Andrew. Hurry up and expose her!”

Andrew looked at Katherine’s purple face, his brows furrowing tighter and tighter. He spoke, “Alright, you go

out, and this won’t happen again!”

Katherine ran out of the ward as if she had encountered a general amnesty.

She covered her chest with her hand and took deep breaths of fresh air, then suddenly her legs gave way and

she fell to the ground.

In the moment when she lost consciousness, a voice came to her ear. “Sarah, durian is very sweet, you

should eat more to replenish yourself.”

Sarah looked at Katherine, who was lying on the hospital corridor with a vacant look in her eyes, and said with a clear laughter, “Ms. Duncan peeled a very sweet durian, Andrew, you should try it too.”

Katherine struggled to breathe, like a drowning fish.

She might have died soon!

No!

She could leave Andrew right away and start a new life. She must not die so miserably!

Katherine struggled to take out her phone from her pocket, wanting to call Andrew’s father.

However, the fingers were unable to exert any strength at all.

Her arm slipped weakly, sinking into endless darkness.
