“What are you doing, Ms. Layton?”
I looked at Camille coldly, but I spoke calmly.
“You think causing a scene like this at the company entrance looks good?”
But no matter what I said, she couldn’t care less She held onto the box and refused to let
“Did I get it right? Feeling guilty now?”
Camille cracked up, then shook her head and clicked her tongue.
“I didn’t think you’d sink this low. All that talk about leaving, and yet here you are stealing from the company?”
She took pride in humiliating me. Her voice was loud enough for everyone on the street to hear.
Some of them slowed down, pointing and whispering.
But I didn’t care. She had always enjoyed humiliating me, and I was used to it.

“You’re accusing me of theft. Do you have proof?” I asked, keeping my voice calm as I met her

“Proof?”
Her smile disappeared, and there was a flash of malice in her eyes.
“It’s right here.”
With a sharp motion, she hurled the box to the ground, sending its contents scattering everywhere.
She looked pleased, then deliberately prodded the mess with the tip of her shoe.
“Wow, you really cleaned us out, huh? Bold move. Let’s see… this one’s not ours, and neither is this…”
I took a breath, frowned, and looked her straight in the eye.
“Pick it up.”

“What? Speak up. I didn’t catch that!”
Camille cupped a hand behind her ear and laughed triumphantly.
“I said, pick it up.” I kept my anger in check and said coldly, “You accused me, so you should
pick it up.”

She sneered, yanked the diamond necklace from her neck, and tossed it into my box.
“Oh my god! Isn’t this the necklace I lost last week?”
She gasped and covered her mouth in mock surprise, then yelled to the people passing by,
“Everyone, come look! Mr. Wexler from Layton Group stole my necklace.”
I laughed in disbelief. “You really don’t care who’s watching while you lie through your teeth, huh?”
Camille crossed her arms with a smug look.
“So what if I am? Go ahead and ask around. Let’s see whose credibility holds up here–yours
or mine.”
She was certain I had no way out, that I would accept her false accusations and beg for mercy. I pulled out my phone and dialed 911 right in front of her.
“What are you doing?” Camille demanded, but her voice cracked.
‘Proving my innocence,” I said. “The diamond necklace doesn’t even have my fingerprints on
it.”
“Fine. You win.” She picked up the necklace on the ground and shoved it back into her pocket. I pocketed my phone and gathered my scattered stuff. Then, she stepped on my drinking glass with one foot and stared down at me with a smug smile.
“Move your foot, Ms. Layton.”
Typical Camille. Childish stunts like this were all she had.
“Oops. Did I step on your stuff? Sorry.”
She kicked my glass away with a triumphant grin
“A dog is forever a dog. No matter how well you play human, you’ll still end up on your knees picking up trash.”
“Take your time. I’m done here.”
With that, she sashayed away.
I didn’t bother looking at her and continued to gather my stuff.
Then, a pair of white heels stopped in front of me
