I shook my head and chuckled. “People like her wear their hearts on their sleeves. I didn’t want to waste more time on her. That’s all.”
I didn’t know what Benson said to Camille, but she stopped stirring up trouble for me for a good while. Now that I had left Layton Group behind, it was time for me to start focusing on
my career.
The next day, I went straight to the warehouse office, planning to erect a partition and set up my office there. After all, my company had barely started, and it severely lacked funds for the time being.
When I arrived at the warehouse gate, I spotted a red car parked by the entrance. Sophia was already here early in the morning. She was talking on the phone and quickly jotting down something on a piece of paper.
She looked absolutely enchanting when she was working. It was hard not to steal more glances at her.
Sophia seemed to have noticed me as well. After she hung up the phone, she walked over to me. Her expression was tender.
“Welcome, welcome, Max.”
. I responded with a chuckle as I saw her pointing at a sign on the ground. She asked, “What do
you think about the company name? Are you happy with it?”
I looked over and saw the word, “Maxophia Logistics.” I had never expected Sophia to use an anagram of our names for our company’s name.
I chuckled, nodded, and said, “I am.”
“I have published the job posting, and quite a number of people sent over their resumes. I have also compiled the name list and done an initial screening. You can take a look at it.”
Sophia’s efficiency and speed earned a newfound respect from me. I took the name list, glanced at it, and made a decision to interview them in the afternoon.
“These few companies are interested in collaborating with us. I did some preliminary reviews. Their credentials and everything checked out. You can go over thèm anytime you want. If you don’t see any issues, we’ll arrange a time to meet with them.”
Sophia gave me another stack of files. Watching her running around like that, I couldn’t help but ask with a grin, “People would’ve thought you were my assistant if they didn’t know any better.”
We were business partners, but she surprised me by getting here early in the morning and finishing nearly all the work.
Chapter 48
Sophia smiled gently, her eyes brimming with fondness as she looked at me.
“It would seem that you’re satisfied with my performance, huh?”
“I am.” I nodded.
That was when my phone rang, and the annoying name flashed on the screen—Camille.
My eyebrows knitted tightly. I never thought Camille would annoyingly latch onto me once more after less than a day of peace. She was like a hyena that wouldn’t let go once it had sunk its fangs into a piece of meat.
I hung up on her, refusing to entertain her further. To my surprise, she just wouldn’t give up and called me over and over.
Things were different now. I had to answer calls from collaborative partners. If she kept causing trouble, I wouldn’t even be able to run my company properly.
Suppressing my anger, I walked outside and answered her call. I frowned as I asked, “What more do you want?”
Camille chuckled and asked, “Geez, Mr. Wexler. What’s with the temper? You’re going to scare me. There are problems with some of the contracts in the company. I want you here to clean up the mess immediately!”

Her commanding tone made me feel utterly disgusted. I rejected her coldly by saying, Camille, how many times do I have to repeat myself? I no longer work for Layton Group.
“Even if there are issues with your contracts, it has nothing to do with me. You’ve got the wrong guy.
