Benson frowned, not expecting me to act so aggressively.

“Once the Centrise Group’s project takes off, I’ll make sure his company goes bankrupt! He’s just a mutt! You’re the only one who keeps thinking about him.”
Desmond agreed indifferently, “She’s right. As long as he decides to start any project in the southwest, I’ll ensure that it fails. Centrise Group has the ability to ensure that!”
I remained unfazed as I said calmly, “You shouldn’t make such bold claims. As a matter of fact, I will ensure that we collaborate with Centrise Group in the upcoming project!”
“You’ll make sure of it? What will you do if you fail?” Camille immediately asked. “What? Do you want to place a bet
with me, too? However, please don’t claim that you’ll do something like eat your own shit. It’s honestly disgusting,” I said, smilingly.
Meanwhile, Desmond was so angry that he immediately stomped his feet.
Sophia and Quinn had been keeping quiet throughout the entire exchange, but they couldn’t help but chuckle at my words.
“Enough with the nonsense. Just tell me what you’ll do if you fail in obtaining the rights to the project,” Camille demanded.
“And what if I succeed?” I asked in return.
“If you do succeed, I’ll do anything you want me to. However, if you fail, I want you to return to the Laytons and continue serving me as my lapdog! Do you dare to make such a bet?”
I couldn’t even be bothered to look at Camille as I wasn’t interested in betting with her. Instead, I asked, “Mr. Layton, how about you and I make a bet?
“If I lose, I’ll do anything you ask me to. But if you lose, I want the Laytons‘ logistic chain to sign a two–year contract with me. I’ll pay the base fee for all intra–city transport. What do you think?”
I had done the math, and I knew that the Centrise Group’s project was massive. Although we could handle it, the process would be challenging for us.
If I manage to get the Laytons to work for me at minimal cost, things would be much easier for us.
Although I hated Camille, I had been the one to build the Laytons‘ logistic chain. So, I knew better than anyone what it was capable of!
Chapter #1
Benson did not expect me to make such a bet with him. Hesitation flickered across his eyes.
He knew me well, and he knew that I would not make such a deal if I weren’t confident enough.
‘Accept it! Make the bet with him!” Camille shouted angrily.
After a moment of consideration, Benson nodded. “Alright!” he said before turning to leave. “Max, just you wait. You’ll be back to being my lapdog soon!” With that, Camille and Desmond also turned to leave.
Once they were gone, Sophia turned to look at me with worry. “Max, do you really have a plan? The stakes are pretty high. If you lose…”
Sophia wasn’t in on what I had done, so it made sense that she was worried about me.
However, to my surprise, Quinn also turned to ask me worriedly, “Are you sure you can do it? Is there a chance that something might go wrong? Also, I still don’t know what you have planned.”
I smiled mysteriously and swirled the wine in my glass. “Just be prepared to be pleasantly surprised later.”
After glancing at my phone and reading the message I had just received, I was more at ease with my plan. So, I found a place to sit and slowly waited for things to unfold.
Soon, the banquet officially began.
Camille took the stage to deliver an opening speech that was nothing more than polite formalities.
“Last but not least, the signing ceremony between the Laytons and the Zenns will now begin. I would like to invite everyone to be our witness and join us in celebrating this good news
“In the future, the Laytons‘ logistic chain in Brinestone will move forward hand–in–hand with you all!” Camille said, smilingly.
Desmond also walked up on stage.
Soon, the two of them signed their contract and cut the red ribbon, signalling their collaboration.
Once that was done, thunderous applause broke out from the crowd.
Camille’s gaze quickly landed on me, and she shouted, “Max, what are you looking at? As my lapdog, shouldn’t you already be crawling over here?”
