It was a massive leap forward from logistics to sourcing, but I knew the ropes. Everything was reorganized and restructured in just half a month
That was when I received Camille’s call.
“Max, what the hell is going on? When was our project with Optima Enterprises terminated? Why wasn’t I told?” she screamed on the other end of the line.
“Oh, I signed off on it,” I calmly replied.
“You? What the hell gives you the right to do that? What makes you think you’re qualified?” She started cursing.
“Take a good look at the contract, Ms. Layton. Consider this a lesson, and Optima Enterprises is the tuition fee you just paid.”
With that, I hung up.
I’d made some adjustments to the contract. With a shareholding structure similar to others, the person holding the most shares assumed the greatest responsibility, which came with the most authority.
Even if Camille tried to sue, she’d lose in court.
It wasn’t long before Henry called. “Max, hurry up and come over. Camille is here making a scene.” There was an apparent frustration in his voice.
I chuckled. That was all she was capable of.
“Don’t worry, Mr. Talerico. I’m on my way.
I drove to Optima Enterprises. As soon as I walked through the door, I noticed Camille
standing outside Henry’s office and yelling at the top of her lungs.
“Henry, you son of a bitch! How dare you and Max scam me! I’m telling you right now that if you don’t renew our contract, I’m not leaving!”
She looked like a full–on shrew as she threw a tantrum right in the office.
“What’s going on here, Ms. Layton?” I walked over, smiling.
When she saw me, she stormed over and raised her hand to slap me. “Max, you fucking muttface! I’ll kill you!”

She glared at me, and her face flushed in rage as I continued, “The contract has been terminated. If you’ve got a problem with that, take us to court. I’m more than happy to oblige.
“But if you don’t have what it takes, get lost. Otherwise, I’m calling the cops.”
I stood with both hands in my pockets and coldly stared her down. She was never a worthy
opponent.
Camille looked at me like she was seeing me for the first time and couldn’t stop staring.
“What? Don’t you recognize me now?” I asked, sneering.
“You’ve got some nerve, Max. I couldn’t tell, but you sure are vicious!”
I didn’t bother replying and glanced at my watch “You’ve got one minute to leave. After that, I’m calling the cops.”
Camille glared at me with burning rage. Yet, there was nothing she could do, so she stormed off in her high heels and was practically shaking with fury.
It was only now that Henry walked out and breathed a sigh of relief.
“We finally got that princess out of here. Do you think everything would be fine now?”
Fine? We were just getting started.
Camille had always been a spoiled brat, and I never saw her as a threat. Benson was the one I was worried about.
He knew nothing about the incident yet, but he would very soon.
“I’ll take care of everything that follows, Mr. Talerico. Benson will probably come knocking soon, but just play dumb. He probably won’t be able to say much with the contract now in effect.”
Henry nodded. “Don’t worry. I know what to do.”
After leaving Optima Enterprises, I had barely gone far before my phone rang. Just as I’d expected, it was from Benson.
“Come to the villa, Max. There’s something I want to talk to you about.”
