Chapter 20
This time, he didn’t stop.
In the emergency passage, Aurora watched Ethan leave.
As he walked away, Lilian glanced back at her.
Her eyes were full of mockery, provocation, and triumph like a victor’s glare.
Aurora closed her eyes, tears streaming down her face.
Yes, she had already lost completely.
So why had she called him again?
Hadn’t she already expected this outcome?
Was it unwillingness to accept defeat?
Or was it because this child also carried his blood?
She had warned herself long ago to guard her heart,
So why had she broken her own promise?
Tears kept falling, and her belly ached terribly.
She was so sad.
Sad to the point of wanting to die.
“Isabella…”
She didn’t know what to do, only called Isabella’s name unconsciously.
Isabella was already a tear-streaked mess.
She kept wiping the tears from Aurora’s face, but they just kept falling, no matter how hard she tried.
“Aura, it’s all my fault.”
Isabella sobbed as she hugged Aurora tightly.
“Sorry, Aura. I’m so sorry…”
”
Aurora was in so much pain that her consciousness blurred.
In front of her eyes appeared again the scene from her dream.
Her parents’ swirling red skirts as they danced, and Ethan’s young, innocent face.

She really hurt.
“Dad, Mom, what should I do?”
Aurora cried herself weak, sobbing in bouts.
Before losing consciousness, she stretched her hand into the air, as if trying to grasp something.
But in the end, she couldn’t hold onto anything.
“Aura!”
Isabella saw Aurora’s hand fall limply and screamed in pain.
The motion-sensor lights in the corridor lit up again.
Isabella saw a large pool of blood spreading under Aurora.
It stained Aurora’s clothes and soaked Isabella’s white coat red.
She didn’t know what to do, only repeatedly urged the doctors to hurry.
The doctors arrived quickly. They lifted Aurora onto a stretcher and rushed her to the emergency room.
“Don’t worry. We’ll save her.”
A colleague who usually got along well with Isabella patted her shoulder in comfort before hurrying away.
Isabella stood stunned, staring at the large pool of blood on the floor.
Only when the orderly came to clean up did she come back to herself, wiped the tears from her face, and followed them
outside the emergency room.
Meanwhile,
Ethan drove Lilian to her home.
The car door closed, the seatbelt was fastened, but he delayed starting the engine.
In his mind, the image of Aurora’s eyes as she fell to the ground replayed over and over.
“Ethan.” Lilian spoke from the passenger seat.
“If you’re worried about her, then go back.”
“We are still downstairs at the hospital. You can see her if you go upstairs. I can go back on my own.”
Ethan didn’t answer. His knuckles whitened as he gripped the steering wheel tightly.
Lilian lowered her head, took a wet wipe from her bag, and carefully wiped her lips-stained with lipstick and the faint
fresh blood Isabella had left.

She placed the wipe where Ethan could see it and said guiltily,
“I lost control and fought with Dr. Carter at the hospital. Even though I didn’t push Aurora, still…”
She put down the wipe, leaned forward, held Ethan’s hand, and looked at him with tearful eyes.
“Sorry, Ethan. I just wanted… to protect you.”
Ethan lowered his gaze and looked at Lilian’s hand in his.
For some reason, a memory flashed through his mind-the time years ago when he had worried and suffered over his grandfather’s illness, and Aurora had held his hand.
