Chapter 26

The news he received was unexpectedly good-better than he had imagined.

He put down his phone, turned, and wrapped his arms around her, spinning in circles right there by the sink.

His sudden move startled her, and when he finally set her down, her eyes still showed the wide-eyed surprise like a

startled deer.

It was adorable.

He chuckled softly and bent down to kiss her.

“Splash, splash…”

Water from the faucet kept flowing over the sink.

Many years later, Ethan raised his head and looked at himself in the mirror.

Water ran down his face, his hair dripping. His eyes were bloodshot, exhausted and broken.

Now, standing alone by this sink was only himself.

Frowning slightly, Ethan turned off the faucet, reached into the nearby cabinet, and took out a clean towel to dry himself.

He tossed the towel into the laundry basket and walked over to the wardrobe, pulling out the clothes he planned to wear

today.

A shirt, trousers, and a suit jacket-but when he reached for his tie, he hesitated.

There was no spare tie in this apartment.

Back when Aurora was here, these things would never be missing.

Ethan pressed his lips tightly together.

In his mind flashed the image of Aurora’s injured, disbelieving eyes looking at him last night after she fell down the stairs.

“Ding dong!”

At that moment, the apartment doorbell rang.

, Ethan opened the door and saw Lilian standing there.

Lilian smiled weakly but sweetly.

“Good morning, Ethan. I brought you some fresh flowers. Look!”

She stepped forward, holding a bouquet of freshly arranged flowers, fragrant and blooming.

With Lilian’s fragile smile, the scene looked delicate and vulnerable, evoking a protective instinct.

In Ethan’s mind flashed Lucian’s words from the midnight hospital.

“If you want to like Lilian, then lock yourself with Lilian. As for Aurora, you shouldn’t care.”

“Ethan, the only thing you can do now is let her go.”

Ethan pursed his lips.

He loathed Lucian’s high-and-mighty tone.

Was Aurora trying to force him to give in this way?

Throwing tantrums, acting, and now even trying to irritate him by cozying up to Lucian?

He hated feeling out of control like this.

“What’s wrong, Ethan? Don’t you like these flowers?” Lilian asked softly beside him.

Snapped back to the moment, Ethan reached out and took the flowers.

“No, I do.”

If Aurora wanted to push him like this, then he would show her he was never someone who could be bullied easily.

“I really like them,” Ethan said to Lilian.

Lilian only had about six months left.

Her illness was partly his fault. He needed to take care of her. It was his responsibility.

“That’s good,” Lilian smiled again.

After that, the two of them left together.

Paparazzi followed closely behind.

Before long, a sensational tweet went viral-“Ethan and Lilian leave the apartment together. The usually meticulous Mr. Steele didn’t even wear a tie-did he forget, or due to other reasons?”

Along with the tweet were photos of Lilian bringing flowers to Ethan’s apartment that morning and the two walking out together.

The news ignited a wave of curious public attention.

Online, rumors and speculation flew everywhere, but one thing was different this time-Aurora officially responded.
