Chapter 9
Liam’s breath hitched. His heart felt like it got slammed by a sledgehammer.
“Gabriella really has cancer?” he asked himself.
While he spaced out, the assistant handed him another report.
“Her side account opened a storefront. Total revenue since she joined the company is over 50 grand. It’s illegal income. Mr. Caillet, should we recover it too?”
Liam suddenly laughed. The panic that had just surged inside him now seemed ridiculous!
The weight on his chest vanished completely!
Of course. Gabriella was always a master manipulator. She once wrote him a “future diary“-raising a puppy together, moving to Wyoming after graduation, having a winter wedding…
And in the end? All lies.
Now she’s playing the cancer card online to gain sympathy. What, trying to make some milk money for her unborn kid?
The more he thought, the more his irritation spiked.
“She’s using company resources for personal gain. Sue her. Recover every penny.”
But even so, his rage still burned.

“Call her. Tell her to come here and explain herself.”
The assistant had never seen Liam so furious. He was always like deep. icy water–only a handful of people could ever stir him up like this. And every single time, it was because of one person–Gabriella.
Liam planned to wait for her. He wanted to watch her delete every made- up post in front of him.
Then hand her the lawsuit. Make her pay for everything she’s done.
Just like when she coldly dumped him back then.
She had made too many mistakes. He was going to make her pay for each one. Get his revenge.
But before Gabriella showed up. Sandra called. She was downstairs and wanted him to come pick her up.
He stood up and told his assistant that when Gabriella arrived, make her wait in the office until he was back.
Liam stepped out of his office and walked to the elevator.
The blue numbers slowly climbed. He stared at them, frozen.
A strange feeling crept into his chest.
He thought, “Maybe Gabriella is here.”
Ding–the elevator opened
He curled his lips into a cold sneer, eyes sharp as he stared at the opening doors. A woman’s face gradually came into view.
Liam’s face darkened. Then suddenly went pale.

Chapter 9
Standing before him was Alicia, her eyes swollen from crying, holding Gabriella’s black–and–white funeral portrait in her arms. She stood still, right in front of the stunned Liam.
Her hoarse voice rasped out, “Liam, per your legal team’s request, I’ve brought Gabriella to see you.”
