The Reason 4

The Reason 4

Chapter4

The second Olivia Moore opened her mouth, Jack completely lost it.

He slammed his water glass down on the table so hard it echoed across the restaurant.

“Olivia Moore, get the hell out! I swear, if you don’t leave right now, I’ll call the cops!”

Her face went white.

Tears began streaming down her cheeks in thick, messy drops.

She stood up in a fury, snatching her purse from the chair.

“You think I want to be your pathetic little sidepiece? That I enjoy begging you? You think I have no grace to back off?”

“I’ve lived in your house all this time because I’m trying to win you back!”

“I was with you for seven years, Jack! All through college. I stuck with you through the startup phase, through that hellhole basement apartment. I starved with you, suffered with you.”

“Yes, I kissed that guy. I messed up. But I did it to secure that damn business deal for you. And what did you do? You dumped me the very next day over what you thought you saw.”

“After everything, you blocked my number, erased me from your life, and what? You went on a

blind date with her the very next day?”

“Why should she get to enjoy the tree I watered with my own blood, sweat, and tears?”

Then, before I could move, Olivia grabbed the glass off the table and hurled it at my face.

The impact hit like a whipcrack.

A sharp sting tore through my forehead.

Blood began pouring down, warm and dizzying.

Everything spun.

And through the haze, I smiled bitterly.

So much for a clean, dignified breakup.

Jack didn’t notice the blood dripping down my face.

Didn’t see me shaking uncontrollably in my seat.

He was too busy shouting.

“Business deal?! You think I needed you to get investors? You think you’re that important? That’s enough. You cheated. You cheated, Olivia, and that’s all that matters.”

His voice cracked with rage, ringing in my ears.

Olivia wasn’t done.

“Oh yeah? Go ahead and marry her, Jack. But today, I’m making sure the world sees her face

for what it really is!”

She grabbed a plate of appetizers and hurled it straight at me.

That’s when something inside me snapped.

I seized a fork off the table, rage coursing through me like wildfire, and lunged.

The metal plunged into her cheek.

A bright bloom of red followed instantly.

Olivia’s scream tore through the dining room.

But I didn’t care.

I wasn’t done.

Fueled by fury, I grabbed her by the hair and slammed her face down onto the table.

Her forehead split open on impact, blood seeping onto the white tablecloth.

I didn’t even blink.

My hatred had reached its peak.

I raised her head to slam it down again.

But then someone shoved me, hard.

My body slammed into the floor like a ragdoll.

The back of my heel twisted sharply as a wave of excruciating pain shot through me.

I looked up, stunned.

It was Jack.

He’d pushed me.

Hard.

And now… he just stood there.

He didn’t check if I was hurt.

Didn’t care that my face was dripping with blood.

Instead, he glared at me with rage and disgust.

“That’s enough, Emma Blake! What the hell is wrong with you? Are you trying to act like a

bitch now? Why would you do this?!”

“Listen to me, if Olivia ends up seriously hurt, you’ll regret it.”

Then he scooped Olivia into his arms and bolted for the exit.

Not once did he look back at me.

The pain in my chest hit like a steel pipe.

And the last thread tethering my heart to his finally snapped.

I wiped the blood from my face with trembling fingers, pulled out my phone, and called the one

man who’d always had my back.

My father, the Director of Homeland Security.

“Dad…” I whispered, voice shaking, “Jack’s mistress just assaulted me.”
