The Reason 6

The Reason 6

Chapter6

That was the last chance I gave Jack.

If he laid a finger on Olivia Moore, broke her bones like mine, then maybe, just maybe, we

could end this cleanly.

Even if it meant spending a few days behind bars, at least he’d finally pay the price.

And maybe my father and brother would stop blaming themselves too.

After all… I really had loved him for ten years.

But instead of agreeing, Jack replied almost instantly:

Emma, I know you’re angry, but please… I’m begging you. Don’t be so harsh.

That day, Olivia and I both lost control. We didn’t mean to drag you into it. It was my fault. I’ll take full responsibility, I’ll come to the hospital and apologize in person. Just… just leave

Olivia out of this.

I stared at the screen in disbelief.

Still, he was trying to protect Olivia.

That told me everything I needed to know.

A cold, mocking smile crept to my lips.

I didn’t bother replying.

I simply deleted his number, blocked his texts, and scrubbed every trace of him from my life.

I also asked my mom to collect all my things from his place.

I stayed in the hospital for fifteen days.

Sometimes I heard voices arguing outside the room, but no one dared step inside.

If I had to guess, it was probably Jack or his parents being turned away.

The day I was discharged, my brother came to pick me up himself.

Just as we reached the hospital entrance, Jack came running over.

He looked exhausted, unkempt, eyes sunken, but his tone was still full of desperation.

“Emma, please. I know I messed up. I’m begging you, just spare Olivia. Please.”

I frowned slightly, but my brother beat me to it.

He gave Jack a cheerful smile and said, “Jack, are you dumb or just pretending?”

“Olivia Moore’s in jail for fraud. Got caught scamming some spoiled rich kid who filed the

police report. Had nothing to do with us.”

”

“They’ve got a mountain of evidence at the station. So maybe stop blaming my sister for

ex’s mistakes.”

your

“And by the way, your beloved Olivia Moore? She’s been sleeping with that guy for months.

Pretty sure she’s already damaged goods. And yet here you are, still crying over her?”

“If I’d known you were this pathetic, I never would’ve let my sister go on that date with you in the first place.”

Jack’s face turned ghost-white.

Tears welled up in his eyes.

“Emma, I’m sorry. I swear, I never thought Olivia would actually hit you. I didn’t mean to push you like that. I just lost control, please, tell me what I have to do to make it right.”

I looked down at him calmly.

“Jack, I’m not angry. Not even a little.”

“I just believe that when someone does something wrong… they need to face the

consequences.”

Jack’s expression crumbled.

And without another glance at him, I took my brother’s arm and got into the car.

Once we were inside, I let out a tired sigh.

“You didn’t have to get involved. This could hurt your career.”

My brother chuckled. “You think I did that?”

He raised an eyebrow. “Please. That’s not me.”

“That was the Moshe family’s heir. He caught wind of everything and decided to make his own

move.”

I raised my brow slightly, relieved that my brother had stayed out of it.

Gripping my chest to soothe the sharp throb of pain, I steadied my voice.

“The rest… I’ll handle myself.”
