“But what? Shawn, if you know a way to save him, just say it!”
Desmond looked like he was ready to shake the answer right out of Shawn.
“As long as you can keep Zeke alive, we’ll do whatever you ask.”
Shawn’s eyes flickered with sarcasm, but his voice stayed calm.
“Sir Ferguson, the curse started when our ancestors messed with a royal tomb a century ago. Zeke just needs to stay on his knees in front of that princess‘ remains for one night to apologize.
“It won’t break the curse, but it might stop him from dying right now. That’ll buy you some time to find another shad- ow–bound body woman he can marry.”
Rebecca didn’t even hesitate. “Where is that princess buried? Take us there right now.”
Desmond looked unsure. “She’s already in a museum. But asking Zeke to kneel to a corpse all night…”
Zeke clenched his jaw, completely losing it.
“Kneel to a corpse all night and apologize? That must be a lie Shawn made up just to humiliate me! I’m not buying it! I won’t fall for this!”
Rebecca, clearly stressed, grabbed his hand, trying to calm him down.
“Zeke, now’s not the time to blow up. We don’t have any other option right now.”
Shawn glanced at his watch.
“If we wait any longer, it’ll be too late. Sir Ferguson, you’d better send Zeke over now.
“I’ve already told you the solution. Whether you go through with it is on you.”
He wrapped his arm around me and led me out.
Just as we reached the door, Zeke’s voice exploded behind us.
“Whitney, you’re so heartless! You knew this could kill me, but you still married someone else! How dare you!”
I turned and looked at him.
“Zeke, no matter how heartless I’ve been, at least I didn’t set you on fire.”
He froze when I said that.
At the wedding, he figured I was different from my previous life, but he never expected me to be reborn as well.

Chapter 7
“So you did it on purpose? You came here just to get revenge, didn’t you?”
I ignored him and left with Shawn.

As we were nearing the Ferguson’s residence gate and about to get into the car, my parents showed up. They were in a rush after hearing the news.
Before I could react, my mother walked straight up and slapped me.
“Whitney, you already caused a scene at the wedding earlier. We hadn’t had time to settle the score with you, and now you show up here trying to steal Xyla’s man? Are you crazy?
“If I’d known you’d act like this, I never would’ve brought you back! You don’t act like a socialite at all. All you do is make us look bad. Xyla is better than you in every way!”
Shawn quickly checked my face. Once he saw I was fine, he turned, ready to argue with them.
I held him back and stared coldly at my parents.
“You were the ones who pushed me into marrying someone from the Ferguson family. Then, without telling me, you let Xyla take my place and blamed me for everything.
“Ever since I came back to the Yeager family two years ago, have you ever treated me like your daughter?
“Xyla has set me up many times, and you never looked into it. If you had, you’d know exactly what kind of person she is.
“Since you only care about her, let’s just cut ties.”
As soon as I said that, my mother tried to slap me again.
But this time, I dodged her.
My father caught her as she nearly fell and gave me a furious glare.
“Whitney, don’t forget what you just said. From now on, we don’t have a daughter like you!”
I grabbed Shawn’s arm, got in the car, and didn’t look back.
He pulled me into his arms, trying to comfort me.
“Whitney, if you’re hurting, go ahead and cry, I’m still here for you.”
I laughed and cried at the same time in the car.
“I’m not upset because of them. I’m just too happy. I’ve finally been free from the Yeager family.”
