THE SYSTEM 7

Chapter 7

And yeah, I kept my word.

Two weeks later, Corbin got the promotion.

Manager of the finance department.

Big bait catches big fish.

Because let’s be real-Corbin hadn’t done anything illegal yet. Just shady.

I needed him to screw up hard enough for it to count.

Once he got that shiny new title, he started strutting around like he owned the place.

My people in the finance team-specifically planted there-played right into it.

“Hey Corbin, you’re the new finance boss now.”

“Let’s hit up The Summit to celebrate!”

“What are you talking about? The Summit’s not that fancy.”

“Corbin’s loaded now, he’s got it!”

“You hear that, Corbin? No excuses, man. Be a boss!”

Someone added with a smirk, “Heard their wine’s amazing.”

“How about cracking a bottle for the occasion?”

“Dude, their wine’s expensive.”

‘Don’t waste money like that-just order a few dishes and call it a night.”

‘Oh come on. He’s a manager now. What, can’t afford a few drinks?”

Corbin, being the impulsive clown he is, fell for it immediately.

Ten bottles! Bring me your best stuff! You think I’m broke or something?”

Even the waiter hesitated.

‘Sir, our wine list is quite… premium.”

‘Are you sure you want ten bottles?”

Corbin waved him off, all ego. “I said ten. Top-shelf.”

Of course, sir.”

He was feeling like a king-until the bill showed up.

And just like that, everyone else had disappeared.

Left him completely alone in that massive VIP suite.

He looked at the receipt and froze.

“One bottle. $42,000? Ten bottles… $420,000?! Wait, total’s half a million?!”

I watched the whole thing from the security feed, laughing to myself.

Told him The Summit wasn’t cheap.

I only bring clients here when we’re negotiating eight figure deals.

Anyone dumb enough to treat this place like Applebee’s deserves what’s coming.

Corbin tried to bluff his way out.

But the staff at The Summit? Unbothered.

Their prices were all on the menu-nothing shady.

“Mr. Corbin, if you’re unable to pay, we’ll have to contact the authorities.”

Corbin turned white as a ghost.

Panicking, he texted me for help. I read it. Then left it on read.

After a minute, he texted someone else. Then suddenly straightened up.

“What’s the big deal? Just 500K. Run the card.”

“Certainly, Mr. Corbin.”

At that same moment, my assistant Mira texted me:

‘Elara, just confirming-Corbin just illegally moved $500K. Should we call the cops?’

I smiled.

‘Not yet. Let him hang himself a little more.’

Because Serena?

She wasn’t off the hook either.

And I never let bait go to waste.
