Chapter 6
“Scarlett, you orchestrated all of this, didn’t you?!”
Jessica threw on her clothes and rushed up to me, pointing accusingly, her eyes bloodshot with rage.
“If you didn’t plan this whole thing, why did you run last night?! You’ve ruined us completely, and now you’re pinning all the blame on Ethan. You’re heartless. Ethan never hurt you, and we never wronged you. Why would you do this to us?”
I’ve heard that people who frame others know better than anyone that they’re innocent.
But I’m not innocent, so my guilt drove me to slap her across the face with all my strength.
Perfect. That made us even for her mother’s slap.
I put on an act of deep regret and anguish. “Back then, Ethan said you were just his friend. How stupid of me! I actually believed that a girl who hangs around with a bunch of guys had nothing intimate going on with him. Do I need to tell everyone what you’ve been up to?! And you dare accuse me? The police are coming. I’m not afraid of your accusations!”
Jessica lunged at me, but Stella and the others held her back.
“What are you talking about? You dare call the police? Ethan,

me, and everyone else here are victims. Even if the police come, they’ll arrest you, not me!”
“You don’t know anything about the law, do you? You people
were engaged in group debauchery. Who do you think the police will arrest? And besides…”
I smiled. “You encouraged Ethan to steal from me. You think you’re in the right?”
I stepped forward and grabbed her wrist, exposing the diamond bracelet hidden under her jacket.
“You asked why I ran last night? Let me tell you now – that diamond bracelet on your wrist is mine. I have the receipt and certificate. I couldn’t figure out how my bracelet went missing before. Turns out Ethan stole it and gave it to you.
“I couldn’t understand why Ethan insisted I shouldn’t call the police about the theft. Now I know – he was the thief, and you’re his mistress. You two were doing these despicable things behind my back. Aren’t you afraid of karma?!”
I kept dropping bombshells to satisfy everyone’s curiosity.
I gripped Jessica’s hand tightly and tearfully appealed to the crowd. “Everyone, take a good look. I’m an outsider. I came here with sincere intentions to visit Ethan’s parents, only to discover Ethan and Jessica’s affair. Could I not run?

“She’s absolutely shameless. She came right up to me wearing the stolen bracelet. And Ethan swings both ways. Last night, as soon as these people arrived, they said they looked down on me and told me not to cry later. Even if I’m naive, I could sense something was wrong. If I hadn’t run, I was afraid I might not make it out alive.”
Jessica screamed, “Bitch! You knew everything! You did this on purpose!”
I stayed silent, just kept crying. Kind–hearted people would defend me.
“What were they planning to do? Were they going to force this girl to join them?”
“Damn! Good thing she ran. Otherwise, she would’ve been completely destroyed.”
“I’m ashamed to be from the same village as these people. Can we kick them out? Don’t let them disgrace our entire village.”
*****
Ethan finally broke free. He stared at me with his swollen face. “You drugged the coffee!”
No wonder he was the only one from the village who got into college.

He was smart, but not smart enough.
I looked at him coldly. “Explain that to the police!”
