The online celebrities didn’t want to bring bad luck upon themselves, so they quickly distanced themselves from me. And I watched everything unfold with a cold eye and with no intention of explaining myself. Let these things continue to ferment.

Seeing that I was no longer speaking, Jessica smugly raised the corners of her mouth. She displayed the wound that was about to be amputated to everyone, spinning a web of lies.
She portrayed herself as a lovesick fool willing to die for love. Just as the camera zoomed in on her bloodied wound, the hospital’s billing department arrived with security guards. The head director leading the group had a dark expression, followed by Uncle Walter and the others I had seen a few days earlier.
I felt a secret joy. The good show was finally about to begin.
The director held the payment slip and approached Anselma first. He asked her, “The account holder you gave me is Eugenia, not Damien. Are you trying to fraudulently claim insurance?”
Jessica’s expression of deep emotion nearly cracked. She frantically tugged at Anselma’s sleeve.
She whispered to her, “Auntie, what’s going on?”
Anselma instinctively looked at me. I gave her a bright smile.
Though she had a bad feeling for a moment, she still forced herself to ask knowingly, “What’s going on, Director? We have always used this account. Now that human lives are at stake, you can’t use your privileges to trip us up…”
“We haven’t even settled accounts with you yet!”
Uncle Walter behind her threw the evidence he had collected on the ground. “You actually pretended to claim Theodore’s death benefits and used her insurance. What is your relationship with her?”
“As far as I know, Damien is Eugenia’s husband, right? Who are you? The second wife?”
Uncle Walter glared at Jessica with a fierce look. Meanwhile, Anselma and Jessica’s faces turned pale in an instant.
The scene descended into chaos. The sharp–eyed influencers quickly raised their cameras, aiming them at the crowd. Some even started live–streaming on the spot.
Anselma hurriedly waved her hands. “No, we didn’t commit insurance fraud. We are all a family.”
Anselma tried to confuse the issue with the term “family,” but Uncle Walter saw through it. “Show everyone the marriage certificate. Is Damien’s wife Eugenia or…?”

“Damien is just close to me. We have a good relationship.”
“What does your relationship with Damien have to do with Eugenia?”

Hearing the word “jail,” Jessica was immediately scared and broke out in a cold sweat.
“I… I didn’t do it. It was just a matter of convenience. Who knew you’d latch onto it like this!”
She glared at me with bloodshot eyes and shouted, “Eugenia! Did you snitch on me? How can you be so petty?”
I knelt down on the ground and deliberately exposed my leg in a cast. “I didn’t mean to. It’s all my fault! But I couldn’t just watch my dad’s compensation money being used…”
As she spoke, tears fell from her eyes. The journalists were stunned by this turn of events. “Oh my goodness, is Jessica the third wheel in this relationship?”
“They are having an affair and are being suppressed?”
At that moment, the director walked over to Jessica. “Since you’re awake now, please settle the medical bills for the past few days.”
Jessica couldn’t hold back anymore. She collapsed on the ground and was crying.
