I stayed away from the house for several days straight.
After handling all the new job paperwork and apartment hunting, I finally went back to what used to be our home.
We’d been so poor back in the day.
The two of us crammed into a tiny studio apartment, maybe 300 square feet.
But we’d been so in love then–thoughtful, caring, with no drama from outside people.
Ever since the company started turning a profit and we moved into this big house, everything changed.
Grayson became slick and calculating, surrounding himself with all kinds of people.
He claimed they were “business partners.”
Always traveling, always having “work events” to attend.
I’d believed him at first.
Until Ivy showed up.
That’s when I realized Grayson had been cheating for ages.
All those nights he didn’t come home that I never questioned–where the hell had he actually been…
I shook my head, pushing those thoughts away.
Everything would pass eventually.
I unlocked the door with my key.
Grayson was inside.
When he saw me come in, surprise flashed in his eyes before he put on his stubborn act: “Thought you said you weren’t coming back? Finally
egretting it?”
shook my head, completely speechless: “I’m here to pack my stuff.”
Grayson’s expression changed. When he saw me reach for a cabinet, he snorted: “I paid for that cabinet. Don’t touch it!”
pulled my hand back.
Then he kept going: “The couch too–I bought it, so hands off.”
Iere we go again.
He pulled this petty bullshit every time we fought.
used to think it was cute. Now it just seemed pathetic.
ignored him and started gathering up all the little couple’s gifts I’d bought over the years, tossing them in the trash.
irayson looked stunned and rushed over: “Why the hell are you throwing all this away?”
laughed coldly, pushing away his hand as he tried to stop me: “I bought it, I can trash it. What’s it to you?”
slipped off my wedding ring and dropped it in the garbage too.
