Chapter 22 Mr. Frey, It’s Not Right to Hit a Woman
Elaine was so nervous that she was trembling all over. Then, she remembered this man had addressed Kevin as his uncle earlier.

Joseph froze for a moment, then recalled the bloody gash he had seen on Kevin’s neck earlier. It must’ve been from a sharp object, and the wound looked pretty deep, too. He exchanged a glance with the driver up front, suddenly finding Elaine interesting.
“You’re probably the first person in Tenby bold enough to stab a guy like him. But I’m not really interested in him. What’s your name?
Elaine eyed him warily and didn’t reply.
“Fine, Don’t tell me if you don’t want to.” Joseph relented, chucking under his breath. “I’ve got other things to do, so I’ll just be generous enough to drop you off at the hospital.”
Her entire body was spasting from pain, but she managed to grit out a thank you. Each word scraped her throat like a blade. At this point, she was afraid that she’d lose her voice altogether and become imite.
Ignoring her, Joseph leaned back in his seat and closed his eyes, Memories from years ago replayed in his mind again.
It had been so long that he wondered if this sense of familiarity was just an illusion. After all, that innocent girl from back then would never have grown into the woman sitting beside him now–wandering around in Crimson Bar in such a revealing outfit.
There were so many ways to make a living. He didn’t quite believe that a woman who wasn’t greedy for money would be forced into such a situation.
When the car stopped in front of the hospital, Elvine was already unconscious. He had no idea when it happened, but then again, her body was covered in fresh injuries, and she had been under extreme pressure earlier.
The driver turned around and said, “Miss, we’ve arrived. Time to get out of the car.”
Elaine didn’t respond. Her face was ghastly pale.
The driver cast a helpless glance at Joseph, who frowned and murmured, “Lenny, am I meddling too much here?“!
Lenny thought Joseph should’ve known better.
Joseph glanced at Elaine again. Judging by her condition, her wounds were likely infected, and she had developed a high fever. She probably wouldn’t wake up anytime soon.
Impatiently, he checked the time and said, “Forget it. I’m in a rush. Just bring her back home. She can leave on her own once she wakes up.”
Lenny nodded, then steered the car in another direction, heading for Montgomery Estate.
When they arrived, Joseph rushed off to attend a video conference in his study, As for Elaine, he simply left her in the butler’s hands.
The butler glanced at the severely injured woman in the car. Since Joseph brought her back, he didn’t dare to be careless. He had the maids carry Elaine into a guest room, then phoned the family doctor to come check on her.
After nearly an hour of fusing, she still hadn’t regained consciousness.
When Joseph finished his meeting and came by, the family doctor had just completed his examination.
“Her injuries are severe, Mri Montgomery,” the doctor said gravely. “Many wounds weren’t treated properly in time. Now, she has sustained new injuries on top of the old ones. She’s developed a serious infection and a high fever.
*Also, from my initial diagnosis, it looks like she has a serious heart condition. She’s been coughing up blood. It might be quite advanced… It’d be best for her to have a thorough examination at the hospital.”

As he shouted, he raised his hand to slap her. But before it landed on Elaine’s cheek, mother hand caught his wrist.
“Mr. Frey, it’s hardly chivalrous of you to hit a woman.”
