Chapter 8
Kayla immediately followed her orders. After a while, she called again.
“Ms. Wagner…” Kayla sounded troubled. “Mr. Smith has invested in the York family’s business, and he’s even signed a liability waiver as your boyfriend. Now, we can’t do anything to Queenie York.”
Yasmine clenched the bedsheet so tightly that her knuckles turned pale from the
pressure.
Just then, the door of the ward was pushed open, and Zachary came in.
“You’re awake.” He sat on the side of the bed and wanted to touch her face.
However, Yasmine avoided him. “Is there anything you wish to explain to me?”
Zachary withdrew his hand and fell silent for a moment. “Yasmine, Queenie is still
She isn’t good at driving, and she didn’t hit you on purpose.”
“Maybe hitting me wasn’t intentional, but what about having me searched and

banquet? What about hiring those beggars to assault me?”
Yasmine questioned.
“She only asked to conduct the body search to search for the necklace.” Zachary frowned. “Beggars? What beggars? How could Queenie possibly do something like that?”
Yasmine took a deep breath, but she pulled at the wound around her rib. She was in so much pain that her head buzzed.
Suddenly, she found everything absurd. If she hadn’t gotten the wrong guy back then, she wouldn’t have wasted three years with Zachary.
She couldn’t be bothered to explain, so she looked up and enunciated every word. “Zachary, are you sure you want to go against me for her?
“You’d better not forget that you left the Smith family and gave up taking over the family’s business. Even if you invest everything you have in the Yorks, they won’t last long if the Wagners keep targeting them.”
Zachary fell silent for a brief moment, then replied, “No.”
He looked up, his gaze terrifyingly calm. “I’ve promised Grandpa that I’ll give up on esports and go back to take over the business. I’ll keep investing if you don’t stop targeting the Yorks.”
Yasmine stared at him in disbelief. “Are you giving up on your dream just to protect Queenie?”
As soon as she said that, she laughed at herself.
Since he had lost ten times continuously during the competition because of Queenie, he had given up on everything.
Zachary looked at her, and his tone became soft. “Let’s end this here, okay? I know you feel wronged. I’ll make things up to you.
“I’ll let you have more profits in the collaborations between my family and yours next time. Most importantly, you’ve always wanted to travel with me, right? I’ll be free after some time, so I can go with you. Is that okay?”
Yasmine was so furious that she almost laughed. When she was about to say that she didn’t care, Zachary’s phone rang again.
He glanced at the screen, and it was a call from Queenie. “I have something to attend to. I’ll come and visit you later.”
With that, he turned around and left without looking back.
When the door closed, Yasmine gripped the IV stand and flung it against the wall..
Yasmine spent three days in the hospital, and Zachary never visited her once. She scrolled through Queenie’s Instagram feed and found a photo of him leaning against a bedside, peeling an apple with gentle, tender movements as his slender fingers gripped the fruit knife delicately.
{
The caption read, “It’s just a little cold, but someone here insists on taking care of me. He’s so annoying.”
Yasmine scrolled past coldly.
The day she was discharged coincided with the day she was leaving the country. She took her visa, booked the earliest flight, and returned to the villa to pack her luggage.
Just as she was carrying her suitcase downstairs, she ran right into Zachary, pushing through the door. His gaze fell on her suitcase, and he seemed to finally remember something.
“Have you already packed everything? Where do you want to travel to? I promised to go with you…”
Before he could finish speaking, his phone suddenly vibrated with a message from Queenie. Yasmine couldn’t see the content clearly, but Zachary’s expression had obviously changed.
He put away his phone and said apologetically, “Yasmine, something urgent came up, so I can’t go with you. You go ahead. I’ll definitely make it up to you next
time.”
He was about to leave after speaking, but Yasmine said, “There’s no need.”
Zachary paused mid–step and turned back to look at her.
“There won’t be a next time.”
Zachary’s brow furrowed deeper, instinctively thinking she was just throwing a tantrum. She was three years older than him and always gave so much in their relationship, so he assumed she would get over it like she always did.
Without giving it much thought, he repeated, “I’ll definitely make it up to you next time,” and turned to leave,
His retreating figure was hurried, as if afraid of wasting even a second. Not long after he left, Yasmine’s phone began to vibrate as well.
Yasmine answered the call, and Queenie’s sickeningly sweet voice came through. “Yasmine, I just sent Zach a message telling him I’ve decided to get back together

with him.”
She laughed lightly, with a victor’s smugness. “I’m sure he’ll be breaking up with you very soon. You’re just an old woman who can’t compete with me.”
Yasmine gripped her phone and suddenly smiled.
“Queenie,” her voice was soft but cold as ice, “once you’re with him, do me a favor, okay? Tell him he doesn’t need to break up with me, because I’m dumping him first!”
She hung up without waiting for a response. She then blocked the number and proceeded to delete all of Zachary’s contact information one by one, severing every connection to him completely.
After finishing all this, she let out a long breath, as if she’d lifted a thousand–pound burden from her shoulders.
On the way to the airport, the rain gradually stopped. Yasmine sent Anthony a message. “Send me Xavier’s phone number.”
Anthony replied instantly, “What? Why? What are you planning to do?”
“I’m getting my husband,” Yasmine replied simply. Her phone was immediately bombarded with Anthony’s messages popping up one after another.
“OMG! Holy shit!
“What do you mean?
“Do you like Xavier?
“Is this trip abroad to chase after him?
“I knew there was a reason you suddenly wanted to transfer overseas!”
Yasmine looked at the screen full of exclamation marks, her lips unconsciously curving upward. She replied, “Yeah. Just wait, okay? You’ll have a brother–in–law real soon.”
“Miss, please turn off your electronic devices,” the flight attendant gently reminded her.
Yasmine turned off her phone and looked out the window. The plane slowly taxied, accelerated, and finally broke free from gravity to soar into the clouds. As the sensation of weightlessness hit her, she suddenly remembered the figure of that young man rushing into the fire to save her three years ago.
“Farewell, Zachary. And I’m coming now, Xavier.”
This time, she wouldn’t mistake one person for another, and she wouldn’t love the wrong person ever again.
