Chapter 10
It was hard to imagine that she had not washed off that bloodstain for an entire month,
What was even more shocking was that her head was crawling with lice, visibly jumping.
For a moment, I could not reconcile the clean and polished Monica, who had been dressed in high–end luxury brands just a month ago, with the person now before me.
As if sensing my gaze, Monica looked up at me fiercely through the tangled mess of hair covering her face.
With just one glance, a jolt went through my heart.
But then, that hatred in her eyes quickly vanished and was replaced by panic.
Monica turned and fled.
As I processed what had just happened, I instinctively turned around and saw Miles.
Though he was smiling warmly at the moment, the look in his eyes was as cold and sinister as a snake’s.
I abruptly turned away and quickened my pace.
I did not slow down until I was certain I had completely shaken off Miles behind me.
But when I finally stopped, I realized I had wandered into a dead end.
It was hard to distinguish where I was or which direction to take. I was lost.
This realization grew louder in my mind. It was already dark and the area was completely deserted.
I began to run frantically, but no matter how far I ran, it felt like I could not escape, as if I had stepped into a haunted maze.
Then, a low whimper caught my attention.
I was just about to call out and ask for help, but as I stepped closer, I saw clearly.
It was Monica, surrounded by a few old men and standing beside them was none other than Miles.
Monica was crying, her expression shadowed and miserable.
Miles was smoking a cigarette and using it to light a stack of red bills in his hand.
When he spotted me, he put the money away and cheerfully waved, gesturing for me to come
over.
The sight was terrifying, and my heart started racing wildly.
I cautiously took several steps back, then turned and ran with all my might.
Until I collided into a familiar embrace, and a gentle sigh rang beside my ear.
Only then did my heart begin to settle.
‘Didn’t I tell you to wait for me downstairs at the company? Why didn’t you listen?”
‘There were some passing cars near the intersection by the company, so I thought I’d go a bit farther to another intersection to wait for you, so I could avoid the racers.”

After that, I quickly pointed toward the alley behind me.
“Did you see that? Monica and Miles are actually doing this now.”
At my words, Daniel glanced over and frowned. Seeing his reaction, I panicked and quickly turned my head, but the alley where the crowd had just been was already empty,
“How could that be?”
“At the end of last month, I dealt with Miles. I sent him and Monica abroad. Thirty bodyguards are guarding them. Lulu, you’ve been too exhausted lately. Maybe you’re hallucinating.” “During this time, some people in the company have also reported that you haven’t been feeling well. Obviously, Miles isn’t here, but you keep asking around about where he is.”
Daniel’s explanation did not ease my mind. I would rather trust what my own eyes saw than
what others said.
“Daniel, you have to believe me.”
“Okay, okay, I believe you.”
Though he said this, I still caught a strong note of distrust in his voice, which inexplicably made me angry. I waved his hand away.
“If you don’t believe me, then forget it.”
That night, Daniel coaxed me for a long time before I finally forgave him. I gradually listened to his explanation.
Maybe I had truly been in a trance this past month, which made me feel like Miles was always around. Perhaps what I saw that night was just an illusion.
But as I kept comforting myself with this thought, the uneasiness in my heart only grew stronger
and louder.
