In the next second, as Miles screamed for mercy like a pig being slaughtered, the ring was forcefully pulled off his finger.
I had no idea if it was because Miles had gained weight or for some other reason, but the ring was incredibly tight.
When it was finally yanked off, it left a long, red mark on his finger.
At that moment, Miles, who was completely unclothed, lay on the ground like a pile of lifeless
mud.
I took the ring from the bodyguard without the slightest hesitation, then casually threw it out of the banquet hall, forming an elegant and perfect arc in the air.
Miles moved at the same time as I did, his eyes following the ring closely as it flew.
But from the windowsill, I saw the ring fall into the lake outside, creating gentle ripples that expanded outward, then silence.
The hopeful light that had briefly appeared in his eyes faded completely.
In the end, he was thrown out by my father.
However, the small farce involving Miles did not manage to disturb the rest of the wedding. Hand in hand, Daniel and I walked into the palace of marriage.
During the ceremony, the vows exchanged between the bride and groom moved everyone
present.
That night, after my father had helped Daniel block all the toasts, he urged him to return to the wedding chamber immediately and start trying for a baby with me.
This was my first wedding night. Though I kept a calm appearance on the surface, deep down, I was incredibly nervous.
While bathing, I recalled everything that had happened that day, especially the pitiful state Miles had ended up in, and I could not help but burst into laughter.
But as I thought further, the memory seemed to shift and end on Daniel’s face.
With that thought lingering in my mind, I stepped out of the bathroom and saw Daniel standing
there.
At that moment, he looked proud and slightly flushed, as if he had drunk a little too much.
“Lulu, do you really want me?”
Daniel, who now looked like a pitiful little puppy, appeared completely different from the man who had stood so confidently to protect me at the wedding earlier today.
Looking into his bright, hopeful eyes, I almost said yes without thinking.
But when I came back to my senses, I silently cursed my own cowardice again.
Before going any further, I knew I had to tell Daniel everything. This was what being husband and wife meant.
“Actually, when I was twenty back then, I tampered with the slips. No matter how many times Miles drew, he would always get the blank slip, and no matter how many times you drew, you

would never get the blank one.”
But to my surprise, Daniel nodded gently as if he already knew everything.
“I knew all of it. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have been so heartbroken. I would rather go off to work in
the rainforest, thousands of miles away, than stay here and watch both of you.”
Hearing those words from him left me shocked and speechless.
“So, you knew from the beginning?”
“Yes. I knew the one you were thinking about was Miles. That’s why, even though I hated him with all I had, I couldn’t bring myself to hurt your beloved.”
So, that was how it was?
I suddenly found myself at a loss for words.
“But things are different now. You’re my wife now. I won’t hold back any longer. I’ll strike at Miles to avenge my mother and to get back everything he did to you.”
As he spoke, Daniel’s hands began to move.
Before I realized it, his hands had already slipped inside
my clothes.
At first, I felt a little uncomfortable and resisted instinctively, but in the end, I gave in to his gentle coaxing and low whispers.
The room was soon filled with a tender charm, and spring seemed to blossom around us.
Unlike Miles’s thin, bony frame, Daniel’s body was lean and strong.
His wheat–colored skin and firm chest muscles gave off an allure that was difficult to resist.
The next morning, at the breakfast table, my father looked closely at Daniel.
He studied him carefully and appeared very satisfied.
“I never imagined that you could establish your own company and go up against the Westbrook Group, which has been running for over ten years. You’re truly a young man to be reckoned with. I wasn’t wrong about you.”
