He was engrossed, lips curling into a faint smile after a while. His deep, velvety voice carried a trace of amusement.
“She’s got guts.”
Jerry stood beside him, just as drawn in, and commented sincerely,
“This is better than any drama. That Candice’s got courage and brains.”
“She’s not acting in a show–she’s fighting for her life,” Charlie replied casually.
After a few more moments, he put away his phone and stood up to leave.
In the elevator, Jerry had already pressed the button for B1 when Charlie suddenly said,
“Quite the spectacle. Interested in seeing the live version?”
Jerry blinked. “…Uh, yes.”
As if he had a choice.
Back at the Banquet Hall,
Caroline Jenkins looked at Mia Jones with shock and disbelief.
She never expected Mia to throw her under the bus.
“No–no! That’s not true! I didn’t force her. She said she had a way to get Candice to sign the settlement. That’s the only reason I… I agreed to meet her at the hotel. I didn’t know she would go this far–I thought it was just to scare her a little!
I just wanted her to sign the agreement,” she explained in panic.
But her words only confirmed her involvement.

then fifteen. I felt bad for you and for Kyle, that’s why I helped! You were afraid he’d hate you, so you asked me to
contact those men!”
Caroline trembled with rage, her fingers shaking. “You–you–utter nonsense!”
“I’m not lying! Mrs. Jenkins, for the sake of Kyle’s future and mine, please just admit it.”
Caroline nearly collapsed on the spot from sheer fury.
The Jones family, realizing the situation, didn’t care who was right or wrong anymore. All they cared about was helping
Mia Jones out of this. So they began shifting the blame entirely onto Caroline Jenkins, scolding her for involving a young
girl in something like this.
They piled the blame on her, completely.
Things got ugly as Caroline’s side and the Jones family began arguing in front of everyone.
The guests were dumbfounded.
They had severely underestimated how wild this drama would get. Twist after twist, each more shocking than the last-
it was high drama from start to finish.
Even Candice hadn’t expected this.
Mia actually turned on her own future mother–in–law at the critical moment. A real dogfight.
She glanced at Kyle, whose expression had turned completely stiff and cold–as if buried in a thick layer of snow.
For someone as prideful as him, this had to be absolutely crushing.
This… was the price of betrayal.
“Candice, I’m sorry! I’ll pay for your treatment! You’re injured and sick, but medicine has come a long way–maybe
even HIV can be cured now!”
Mia’s shrill voice echoed in the hall, begging through crocodile tears.
Candice turned to her, expressionless, catching the glint of malice still hidden in her eyes.
She wasn’t truly sorry. She didn’t care about getting exposed, didn’t mind sacrificing her future mother–in–law. All that mattered was publicizing that Candice had been violated and was now “tainted.”

disappoint you–someone rescued me last night. The people you hired didn’t succeed. I’m not infected, and I’m not
dying.
But you you’re going to prison.”
Mia’s tearful act crumbled in an instant. Her guilt, remorse, and regret peeled away like flaking paint, revealing her
dark, hideous true self.
Kyle’s eyes suddenly lit up.
He rushed to Candice. “Is it true? Really?”
Candice didn’t even spare him a glance.
Mia Jones, now completely agitated, screamed like a banshee,
“That’s impossible! That hotel’s known for privacy! The room was isolated–no one could’ve found you! Who could’ve
saved you? God?!”
Candice replied calmly,
“If you insist on calling him a god, well… he did seem pretty divine.”
His clean scent, the warmth in his voice as he told her she was safe–he had appeared like a savior, tall, handsome,
glowing with light.
Mia snapped,
“I don’t believe it! There’s no such person! You’re just trying to convince Kyle you’re still pure!”
Candice gave a cold, disdainful laugh.
“I don’t need him to believe anything. If I had been violated, the ones who were filthy and evil would’ve been those men -and you, the instigator!”
Mia froze, madness flickering across her face. “Enough with your lies! You said someone saved you? Then call him out! Summon your god! Let everyone see what kind of ‘savior‘ he is!”

Someone gasped,
“That’s Charlie!”
“Which Charlie ?!”
“How many Charlie are there in Vanclyn?! Are you dense?!”
“Oh my god, the one from the Clemens family! Why is he here… wait–what did he just say?!”
…
The entire hall buzzed with whispers.
Charlie Clemens attending this banquet was unthinkable. Even the Jackson family didn’t have the clout to invite him.
And yet here he was–and by his own words, he was the one who saved Candice?
He came just for her?!
Was Candice born under a lucky star that attracted billionaires?!
