Someone Has Her Back
Charlie turned his head slightly, lowered his gaze, and asked Candice in a polite and gentle tone, “I heard someone
questioning your innocence. I spoke up impulsively without asking your permission first. I hope I didn’t cause you any
trouble?”
Candice pushed down the flutter of surprise in her chest. “…I’m the one troubling you, Mr. Clemens.”
“Would you like me to clarify for you?”
“…Please.”
She barely kept herself from gasping aloud.
He was already here–refusing his help would just be rude.
All the socialites at the scene had stars in their eyes. That face, that elegance, that noble bearing… The way he gently looked down and spoke softly could kill a girl with charm.
Charlie turned to the crowd and calmly said, “Last night, I was the one who rescued Miss Hale.”
“I was meeting a client at that hotel. On my way out, I saw Miss Hale in the corridor. She was disoriented, and the man supporting her looked suspicious. I asked the hotel to look into it, and together with their staff, we went to intervene. Luckily, we arrived in time and nothing happened.”
He spoke with careful precision, eliminating any ambiguous or misleading details.
This way, not only did he testify on her behalf, but he also blocked others from fabricating more gossip.
Candice silently admired his thoroughness.
But a man so meticulous–would he really just be “wandering around” and happen to drop in, getting involved in this mess for no reason?
Could it be…
She was so pitiful, he couldn’t help but sympathize?
That theory lingered in her mind, and her eyes stayed fixed on him. This look of quiet admiration was fully captured in Kyle’s line of sight.
Kyle clenched his fists.
Neither the Jackson nor Jones families said a word. Mia Jones still wanted to make a scene, but Miranda quickly covered

her mouth.
The other guests nodded repeatedly, fully convinced.
The heir of the Clemens family himself had vouched for Candice–what more did they need?

Even if she had been violated, even if there were undeniable evidence, they would all shut their eyes, cover their ears,
and zip their mouths shut.
Anyone who said otherwise would be slapping the crown prince in the face.
But since the crown prince had spoken so earnestly, that could only mean that Candice really hadn’t been harmed.
Otherwise, no matter how pitiful she was, if she had been “tainted,” someone like him wouldn’t have gotten involved.
“Thank you for saving my wife!”
Kyle stepped up and pulled Candice into his arms, trying to reclaim possession.
Before Charlie could respond, Candice shoved Kyle’s arm away, her face frosty.
“Mr. Jackson, you have no right to thank him on my behalf. Also, when I said I wanted a divorce, I wasn’t joking. You’ve
already signed the divorce papers. Tomorrow at noon is the end of the cooling–off period.”
Kule felt like both his heart and brain had just been hit by a bomb. He choked out hoarsely, “You really want to divorce
idn’t believe it.
She loved him so much–she wouldn’t really leave. She was just upset, just venting.
But her eyes were cold and unwavering.
She glanced at the time. “The police will be here soon. Rather than worry about the divorce, maybe you should be more concerned about your ‘Sweetie’ and your mother. Oh–and don’t think you’re off the hook. Last night, your Sweetie said
you were involved too.”
Kyle’s eyes went bloodshot. “You really think I could do that to you? I’d never hurt you!”
Candice looked at him, then suddenly smiled–coldly.
“Never hurt me? You’ve got the nerve to say that?”
“You think I just found out about you and Mia Jones? I’ve known for a long time. Every date. Every hotel stay. Every secret vacation…”

“Do you know what it feels like to be stabbed through the heart with a knife–but not die? Like being tortured every day
and night, like falling into the deepest pits of hell. What did I ever do to deserve that? What did I do wrong to you?”
Her voice was soft, but every word dripped blood.
Kyle struggled to breathe.
Each of her words pierced his heart like needles. He regretted it. He had just been blinded for a moment–he didn’t want
a divorce. He couldn’t lose her.
While they spoke, Charlie had turned away, whether intentionally or not.
He blocked Candice from view, so the guests could only hear her voice but not see her expression.
Then, a group of uniformed police officers entered.
They approached the Jackson and Jones families, produced arrest warrants, and took away Mia Jones, Caroline Jenkins,
and Kyle.
As she was dragged out, Mia Jones wailed like a banshee, but even the Jones family was helpless.
There were witnesses. There was evidence.
And with Charlie backing Candice, both families could only scramble to contact their lawyers.
The outrageous, dramatic farce finally came to an end.
actors were exhausted, and the audience thoroughly entertained.
For the next week, the entire elite circle of Vanclyn would surely be talking about tonight’s events. Those who hadn’t
attended would deeply regret missing the show.
Soon, the banquet hall emptied out.
Charlie and Jerry were the first to leave.
Candice waited until they were gone before stepping outside.
Instead of heading home immediately, she walked to the park behind the hotel and leaned weakly against a tree.
The dim ground lights cast long shadows.
Dressed in a red gown, she looked like a vengeful spirit who had just avenged her death
In truth, she already knew exactly who the mastermind and accomplices were.

She knew Kyle hadn’t participated directly, and that Caroline had only helped lure her to the hotel.
But when she called the police, she deliberately left that out. She wanted them all arrested, interrogated.
She hated Kyle. This was what he deserved.
Click–click–click…
Footsteps approached.
As they neared, the air was filled with a refined, woody fragrance.
Candice lazily looked up.

Soft, veil–like light filtered through the bushes, casting shadows across his sharply contoured face. His eyes, lowered under the glow, revealed no emotion. Shrouded in the night, he appeared even more imposing–an intense presence.
“You’ve gotten your revenge. You should be happy. Why are you hiding out here, zoning out?”
“…Tired.”
And, why are you following me?
She didn’t dare say the second part out loud.
lie fell silent for a few seconds.
you’re tired, go home and sleep.‘
The moment he spoke, Candice stood up quickly.
“You’re right. I’ll head home right now. Goodbye, Mr. Clemens!”
She trotted off in her heels, glancing back to call out, “Thank you for today!”
Charlie: “…”
Candice took a cab home.
She hadn’t driven, so she entered through the main lobby and took the elevator.
When the doors opened-
She froze.
Charlie was standing inside.

Candice forced herself to step in. She pressed her fingerprint lock and turned to him with a nervous smile, grasping for small talk. “You must be tired too, Mr. Clemens.”
“Mhm. Came back to sleep.”
“Me too.”
“So?” Charlie turned slightly, his expression a bit sharp.

Candice was completely thrown.
Uh?? Was there supposed to be a “so” in this conversation??
