The car pulled away from the dock.
It was too quiet inside.
Candice no longer dared peek into the mirror, focusing on the road ahead.
In the backseat, Jessica, who had been slouched, sat up–swaying izzily like a leaf in the wind.
As the car turned off the bridge and onto the main road, her body tipped sideways–falling directly onto Charlie’s thigh.

Along arm blocked the body falling toward him.
*pecics. I know you’re not drink. Drop the act
Charlie’s patience had reached its limit.
Jessica opened her eyes. They were perfectly clear as she gazed at him with a wounded expression “Does it have to be like this?”
“That’s my line,” Charlie snapped. “Either sit properly or get out
His voice was icy, brimming with intimidation.
The driver in the front seat didn’t even dare to breathe.
Candice couldn’t help sneaking a glance into the rearview mirror.
She saw Jessica stubbornly holding back tears, her misty eyes wide open, as if trying desperately not to let the tears fall.
“Stop the car!” she suddenly shouted.
Naturally, the driver didn’t stop. He only took orders from Charlie.
Fearing she might really try to jump, Candice quickly had the driver lock the doors.
Sure enough, the next second, Jessica reached for the door handle–thankfully, it was already locked.
But even when Jessica tried something as extreme as jumping from a moving car, Charlie didn’t so much as blink. His expression was cold, as if silently saying, You want to die? Go ahead.
“You really hate me that much…” Jessica broke down.
She curled up, burying her face in her knees, utterly devastated.
Candice heard her soft sobs and couldn’t help thinking of her own heartbreak. With a sigh, she quietly pulled out a tissue and
tried to hand it back.
“Miss Hale!”
Charlie’s cold voice cut in sharply.
Candice pressed her lips together and retracted her hand.
Men are all the same–either cheating or heartless!
Seeing her frustrated expression, Charlie almost laughed out loud.
When they reached the hotel, Charlie stepped out of the car and strode inside without a word.
Candice: He actually left her for me to handle…
With no other choice, she turned to the still–seated Jessica. “Ms. Anna, I’ll go get you a room.”
Jessica sat stiffly, her whole aura icy cold. After a long silence, she said faintly, “No need. I’ll stay in your room.”
“Of course,” Candice agreed. The suite had an extra bed anyway.
They entered the hotel together.
Candice noticed that Jessica, who had just been acting dead drunk, was now walking steadily.

So she really was faking it…
Suppressing a sigh, she led the way.
Once in the room, Jessica said she wanted to take a bath.
“You shouldn’t. You’ve been drinking–let me get you some hone water instead,” Candice tried to dissuade her.
Jessica ignored her and headed straight for the bathroom.
Candice blocked her. “If something happens to you, how am I supposed to explain it to the CEO? You know you’re not supposed to bathe after drinking. You’re just hurting yourself.”
Jessica’s eyes turned red again at the blunt words.
Taking the opportunity, Candice helped her back to the couch.
Cold beauty or not, she’s even more melodramatic than a character in a book…
Candice called the butler and asked for a cup of honey water.
Just as she hung up, her phone rang again.
Only two numbers were saved in her new phone: Charlie and Jerry
It was Charlie.
Glancing at Jessica, she figured he’d cooled down and softened. She picked up, “Hello?”
“Come here.”
Just four words, low and commanding.
Candice blinked, then quickly replied, “Okay.”
She turned to Jessica. “The CEO wants to see me. I’ll be right back.
Jessica slowly lifted her head from the pillow. Her cold eyes studied Candice from head to toe. Then, as if realizing something, a bitter smile formed. “Go ahead.”
Candice: “……”
What’s with that look?!
She opened her mouth to explain but thought better of it. Any explanation might just make it worse.
Frustrated, she left.
At Charlie’s suite, she used the card key to let herself in. Both she and Jerry had keys for convenience.
It had always felt normal–until now. Jessica’s look just moments ago made it feel weird.
Inside, Charlie was by the window, removing his watch.
Men unstrapping watches…
Candice’s brain ran wild, imagining a dramatic soap opera scene: the male lead seduces his secretary to provoke the female lead
“You… CEO, y–you-
“I’m hungry.” His voice was low and rough, his gaze landing squarely on her.

Staring at him with wide eyes, she instinctively took a step back. Charlie looked confused, glanced down at the watch in his hand, then finally seemed to realize and added dryly, “I meant l’ungry for food.”
“Oh! Oh, you mean your stomach’s hungry. Whew, you scared me Candice laughed in relief.
Then it hit her.
The air was thick with cringe–worthy awkwardness.
Candice wanted to bite her tongue off. She cleared her throat, trying to move past it. She walked to the phone and began dialing, trying to sound composed. “What would you like to eat, CEO?”
Charlie put the watch back on with a blank expression. “Whatever
The most annoying kind of customer: the one who says “whatever”
Candice complained inwardly, but outwardly, she ordered a few common items with a soft, professional tone.
After hanging up, she noticed the watch was back on.
So… he knew exactly what he was doing…
“Miss Hale,” Charlie said flatly, “you know the tasks you’re doing now used to be Jerry’s, right?”
Trying to snap her out of her wandering thoughts.
Candice, still trying to process that, blurted, “Jerry had to do this too?”
Charlie: ”

He waved a hand. “Get out.”
Candice left the room.
A few steps out, she stopped and banged her head against the wall
Just as Jerry returned and witnessed the bizarre scene. He was about to check on her when Charlie called, so he went straight in.
“CEO,” he began, “Did Miss Hale have a drink? I just saw her headbutting the wall in the hallway.”
Charlie: “…”

He rubbed his brow and changed the subject to tomorrow’s work.
Just then, the food arrived. Jerry’s stomach growled, and Charlie let him stay to eat.
After they finished, Charlie casually asked, “Candice was doing great earlier. Why’d you take over?”
At that, Jerry chuckled. “She’s way too gutsy. At first I was worried, but then she got too into it. She wanted to go all–in! I nearly had a heart attack. I had to come up with an excuse to swap with her. She really thought she was some kind of gambling god…”
Charlie’s gaze froze. “She went outside?”
