Chapter 38 Psychological Attacks and Physical Assaults
Everyone turned to look at him.
Those blocking his way hurriedly stepped aside.
The people at the factory had never seen the new CEO of the group but the moment he walked in, his natural aura of authority instantly subdued them.
With a dark expression, Charlie walked to the center of the conference table.
“Have you found her?”
His gaze swept across every face in the room.
Not a single soul dared to make a sound.
But someone had to answer. As the head of the factory, the plant manager was the obvious spokesperson.
Everyone turned in unison to look at Edward.
Charlie’s cold, fox–like eyes fell on him too.
Whether it was from fear or being stunned by Charlie’s impeccable looks, Edward’s heart pounded wildly.
M–Mr. President, we… we haven’t found her yet.”
“You’re Edward?”
“Y–yes.”
“As far as I know, you were the one assigned to receive Miss Hale today. That means, logically, you should be the one who
knows her whereabouts best.”
His tone was calm and measured, but the pressure behind it was enough to crush someone’s soul.
Edward’s heart raced faster.
His eyes darted nervously, and he struggled to breathe, but he forced himself to respond, “Yes, I was the one who met Miss Hale. I was also the one who saw her out. I only walked her to the factory gate. After that, I returned to work. I really don’t know
where she went.”
“You really don’t know?”
Charlie leaned in slightly, his tall frame lowering as his slender, bony fingers pressed against the tabletop. His sharp eyes bore
into Edward’s soul.
“What if I have proof you’re lying?”
Edward’s mind went blank with a deafening buzz. His already dark complexion turned ashen.
“N–no, sir! I swear I’m not lying! I really don’t know where Miss Hale went!”
No matter what he said, he was doomed. But instinctively, he still tried to gamble.
Others in the room who were in the know were either bowing their heads, sweating profusely, or too scared to breathe.
Charlie said nothing.
He had only bluffed, and yet they had already exposed themselves
There was no way they weren’t involved in Candice’s disappearance.
Kyle, who had been standing silently nearby, was already fuming. He couldn’t hold back any longer.

He rushed forward, grabbed Edward by the collar, and shouted, “here is my wife? What did you do to her?
“Who who are you? Let go of me!” Edward gasped, neatly chok
BANG
Ryle slammed Edward’s head hard against the table. The sound alene made people think his skull had cracked.
Tveryone was stunned.
Someone tried to step in, but the moment they moved, they were frozen by the terrifying look Charlie shot their way.
Others saw it too.
And they understood: this man’s actions were sanctioned by the CEO.
No one dared to interfere again.
Kyle grabbed Edward by the hair, yanked his head back violently, his expression like a demon from hell.
“Speak! Where is my wife?!”
“–” Edward, his face covered in blood, tried to say he didn’t know. But as soon as the words formed, the sight of Kyle about to bash his head again silenced him.
“If you want to die, I’ll be happy to oblige.”
Kyle raised his head again, ready to slam it down.
“I’ll talk! I’ll talk!”
Edward screamed. He couldn’t take it anymore. One more hit and he’d be dead.
His head hovered just a centimeter above the table.
Kyle yanked his head back again.
“This is your last chance.”
His words didn’t just terrify Edward–every other accomplice in the room felt their hearts leap into their throats.
They wanted to speak up, to step forward, but the overwhelming presence in the room–the cold, commanding gaze of the CEO -froze them in place.
Move, and it was over.
But if Edward spoke, it was also over.
The atmosphere turned unbearably tense.
“S–Miss Hale is-”
“What’s going on here?!”
Just as Edward was about to spill, a stern voice came from the doorway.
Nick had arrived.
Jessica was right behind him.
Their cars had entered the factory one after the other.
Charlie turned to look at them, his eyes icy cold, as if questioning: Do you really think it’s your place to speak here?
Nick awkwardly rubbed his nose and stepped behind Jessica.

The mouth that was about to be pried open was rudely interrupted by the arrival of this meddling fool, and the fire in Kyle’s heart was now hot enough to incinerate the entire room.
He pointed at Nick and ordered his men,
“Take him out. Beat him to death.”
Nick: a p.
Several burly men, clearly professionals, started walking toward hn. Nick immediately turned to run.
The men gave chase.
Jessica was stunned.
Who is this guy?
She looked at Charlie.
Jerry leaned in to explain, “That’s Miss Hale’s…”
Considering they weren’t officially divorced and afraid of being the next to get a bullet from Mr. Jackson, he chose his words carefully:
“…husband.”
Husband?!
Candice… is married?
Jessica was shocked. Her simmering resentment suddenly lost direction.
Nick, who had been scrambling around the office, was finally caught.
As Kyle’s men dragged him out, another group of people stormed into the building–clearly local thugs. When they saw Edward being restrained, the one in front shouted, “Uncle!” and rushed in to save him.
A group of them surged forward. Kyle had no choice but to let go.
His bodyguards also released Nick to go protect their boss.
In the chaos, Edward was dragged out of the conference room.
Jerry looked to Charlie, waiting for a command: Should we let our people act?
Charlie gave him a look.
Jerry understood and sent a command via his phone.
Meanwhile, Kyle finished dealing with the thugs and, realizing the one person who knew where Candice was had escaped, immediately took his men in pursuit.
The beaten gang members also scrambled to flee.
The meeting room fell silent again.
Nick groaned as he held his waist, cursing,
“My back! What kind of people are you? Have you no law? Can’t we talk like civilized folk?!”
Someone rushed to support him. Another pulled out a chair for him.
He sat down like it was the most natural thing in the world, as if he was the boss here.

Charlie didn’t get angry. He didn’t say a word.

He stood there with one hand in his pocket, towering above Nick, watching him with amusement–so intently, with such bemusement, that it made Nick sweat.
He fidgeted, feeling like he was being skinned alive.
He awkwardly stood up again.
“Mr. President, please have a seat, you sit first.”
“VP Zack, such authority you have. I think we should rename this branch. No need to call it the Clemens Group anymore,” Charlie said casually, then slammed the table with his finger.
“Let’s call it Zack’s Group instead!”
That slam was like a nail driven into Nick’s heart.
His legs nearly buckled.
Charlie slowly pulled out a chair and sat down leisurely.
“Where’s Miss Hale? Where did you instruct Edward to take her?”
Straight to the point.
Nick’s legs were still trembling. Hearing the question, he took a deep breath, straightened his face, and replied with firm conviction,
“Mr. President, I had nothing to do with this. You can’t go around accusing people without proof!”
