Charlie let out a cold laugh.
His beautiful eyes were deep and unreadable.
“You’re that confident I won’t be able to find her?”
Nick sat back down, his tone filled with grievance.

“If you want to pin a crime on someone, you’ll always find an excuse. If the CEO wants to use this chance to remove me from my post, just say it. No need to fabricate false charges!”
“What I’m asking you right now is–where is Miss Hale?”
BANG!
A loud slam of the table interrupted everything.
Charlie’s expression changed in an instant. Just a second ago, he was inscrutable–now, he was like a blade drawn and ready to
strike.
Nick’s pupils contracted.
But he quickly regained his composure, putting on the facade of someone with nothing to hide.
“I don’t know Miss Hale’s whereabouts. If you insist this is related to me, then please provide your evidence.”
His voice was firm, loud, and unyielding.
Charlie’s rage subsided slightly, but his face turned deathly cold.
His heart grew colder still.
He had deliberately gone on the offensive to provoke an unconscious reaction.
But unlike Edward, Nick showed no sign of panic at all.
Especially when Charlie asked, “You’re that confident I can’t find her?” -he even seemed smug and relaxed.
…Could it be… she truly can’t be found?
His palm clenched into a tight fist.
“I have a bad habit: I protect my own. Anyone who lays a hand on my people–evidence or not—I’ll make sure they disappear without a trace. VP Zack, it seems you can’t wait to find out what that feels like.”

Nick met Charlie’s cold, mechanical stare–the kind of look reserved for corpses. He couldn’t help swallowing hard.
Then he quickly reassured himself: What’s there to be afraid of? Edward was the one who locked her up. She jumped out the window on her own–that’s on her. It has nothing to do with me!
“President, I know you’re worried since Miss Hale’s gone missing. We’re worried too. If you want to vent, and decide to use me and Old Du as scapegoats, we won’t complain.”
“All I ask is that you don’t take it out on the rest of the staff. They did nothing wrong.”
“Everyone here has worked tirelessly for the company, and now you treat us like this over a pretty face? It’ll chill people’s hearts.”
As he spoke, tears began to fall.

Some of the employees, unaware of the full truth, were moved by his words and began to harbor resentment toward Charlie in their hearts.
That was exactly what Nick wanted to stir up emotion, especially Jessica’s.
Sure enough, Jessica’s expression grew visibly darker and more resentful.
Charlie stood there, cold and stein, radiating an air of killing intent
At that moment, Jerry rehunned from a phone call, his face alight with joy.
He walked quickly to Charlie’s side and whispered in his ear,
“Edward talked. She’s being held at his family’s old house.”
“Kyle will go there. You take a team and search a five–kilometer radius around the house.”
“But… that house is by the sea.”
Charlie’s heart clenched.
A deep, bone–chilling cold washed over him.
f her body had been dumped in the ocean… it would be almost impossible to recover.
Jerry saw that instead of relief, Charlie’s expression had grown even heavier–and a terrifying thought flashed through his mind.
There was no time to ask more. He quickly left the conference room to carry out Charlie’s order and begin the five–kilometer search.
Everyone in the room had noticed Jerry’s urgent whisper and swift exit. They exchanged glances.
Did they find her?
Those who had taken part in the kidnapping broke into a cold sweat once again.
Nick scoffed to himself.
Edward, that useless idiot, must have been caught. And he actually confessed?
Putting on a show, he asked,
“Is there news about Miss Hale?”
Charlie caught the quick flash of sarcasm at the corner of Nick’s mouth.
If he could, he really wanted to take a page out of Kyle’s book and smash this rat’s skull right here and now.
“Yes, there is…”
Charlie dragged out his words. Seeing Nick’s expression freeze for a moment, he asked,
“VP Zack, are you afraid?”
Nick paused, then laughed heartily.
“Why would I be afraid? If she’s been found, I’m thrilled. Finally, can clear my name! That’s fantastic.”
Hmph, he sneered inwardly. Even if they find her, she’ll be dead. Don’t try to scare me.
“Is Miss Hale really that important?!”

Jessica finally snapped.
She slammed bet purse on the table.
Since she entered the room, she had seen and heard enough enough of how much he cared about another woman.
He had never shown that kind of urgency for her not even once.
Charlie looked at her.
His expression was stern, his presence alone commanding silence
“Do you know why she came to the factory? Do you even know why she went missing?”
“What a joke! I’m the general manager of this branch! She’s just a secretary who’s been on the job for barely three days–what right does she have to be the focus of my attention?”
Jessica’s heart was heavy, her words sharp and bitter like a porcupine’s quills.
“But you—you’re the CEO of the entire group. And you’re going all out like this for a secretary. Anyone who doesn’t know better would think your wife’s the one who went missing!”
“Jessica, if you’d spent even half the effort you wasted on me on doing your actual job, you wouldn’t be this damn useless.”
Jessica’s eyes turned red.
He actually humiliated her for Candice?
“Fine! I am useless! I’ll resign as general manager right now!”
She didn’t care anymore. She picked up her phone and called Charlie’s father, Denny Clemens, the chairman of Clemens Group.
She hit speaker and slammed the phone onto the table.
Charlie watched coldly, not stopping her.
As soon as the call connected, Jessica started sobbing and complaining to Denny Clemens about everything that had happened.
Her voice choked with tears, painting Charlie as a tyrant and Candice as a seductive demon, ruining the company.
Nick jumped in to comfort her, making sure his voice was clearly heard over the speaker.
Denny asked him a few questions, and Nick replied respectfully, sounding utterly pitiful.
Finally, he sighed and said,
“Chairman, if Ms. Barnes resigns, I’ll resign too. It’s better to leave with some dignity than be dismissed in disgrace.”
Two people threatening to quit. Others in the room followed suit, stirring up a frenzy
Jessica, realizing the situation had gotten out of control and that she was being used, wanted to take back control –but it was
too late.
She nervously glanced at Charlie.
He stood with his arms crossed, utterly composed, not sparing her a glance.
“Charlie, what do you have to say?”
Denny’s voice came from the phone, handing final judgment to his son.
Charlie finally spoke.

“Father, haven’t you noticed? What you’re seeing now this chaos is the true face of this branch office.”
His voice was calm as still water, but each word cut to the bone.
He had torn off their masks, exposing their monstrous true forms
Jessica flushed red, then purple with embarrassment.
She shouted,

“You’re the one who’s lost all reason over a woman! You’ve mixed business with personal feelings! Why do you protect her like this? Why do you care about her so much? Are you in love with her? She’s already married!”
“Jessica!”
Charlie snapped.
The disappointment in his eyes was unmistakable.
“All you ever think about is love and jealousy. I asked you–do you know why Miss Hale came to the factory? But you don’t care. You only want to know whether I like her.”
“You say I care about her? You’re damn right I do.”
“Because in just a few days, she found a problem you missed after two whole years!”
“She’s the one investigating the accounts on my behalf–and that’s what got her into trouble!”
Jessica froze.
The disappointment in his eyes stabbed her like a knife.
He had just said Candice was more competent than her–Jessica’s heart twisted with jealousy and fury.
“She says there’s a problem, so there is one? Just because she noticed something, that makes her right?”
Nick chimed in to back her up.
“I agree with Ms. Barnes! Just because she says there’s an issue doesn’t make it true. Even if there is a problem, why didn’t she inform the company first? Why didn’t she tell Ms. Barnes? Isn’t she just trying to show off in front of you, President?”
“Because there’s a traitor like you in the company!”
A weak female voice suddenly came from the doorway.
