He checked his watch and added,
“The doctor said your leg injury will take at least a week to heal. You can choose to return to Vanclyn to recover. I can arrange a private plane to take you back first?”
“No need to send me separately. Let’s just go back together with everyone.”
Candice quickly responded.
Having him send a private jet just for her that felt a bit too much.
“Alright. We’ll go together then.”
The smile in Charlie’s eyes deepened slightly.
He then told her to rest well and left with Jerry.
Jessica had originally wanted to say something to Candice, but seeing Charlie leave, she hesitated then followed him out
instead.

Candice smiled with gritted teeth, lay back down, and pulled the covers over her head,
Kyle was so furious he felt like his liver was going to rupture.
But there was nothing he could do.
He sat silently at the edge of the bed, watching his wife ignore him completely, feeling like his heart was frying in a wok full of oil.
Candice stayed in the hospital for three days.
And for all three days, Kyle stayed too—hovering over her constantly.
No matter how many times she told him to leave, ignored him, or treated him like air, he wouldn’t budge.
He played the shameless card to perfection.
During that time, his phone rang nonstop.
Sometimes he answered, but most of the time he just hung up.
Clearly, he was agitated.
Candice couldn’t help but wonder:
Did the Jones family already manage to get Mia Jones released?
It wasn’t impossible.
Kyle had gotten out so quickly, and with the Jackson family’s legal team behind him, the Jones family’s lawyers surely weren’t any less competent.
That afternoon.
She took advantage of a bathroom break to lock the door and call Sophia.

“Singapore? I thought you were in Iceland.”
“Long story.”
Candice didn’t mention working for Charlie or her injury.
‘Anyway, what’s going on with Mia Jones?”
As soon as she asked, Sophia’s voice exploded in fury on the other end.
“the Jones family submitted a certificate claiming Mia Jones has a psychological condition. She was bailed out yesterday afternoon!
Today their lawyer came to me proposing a settlement. I told them to get lost! Who wants their dirty money? We absolutely won’t-

“Kyle’s pulling the whole regretful, can’t–live–without–me act now.
No matter how I push him away, he refuses to leave.

And I’m not confident I can beat him in court.
So… I need a helper.”

Charlie and Jerry arrived.
Kyle wasn’t there he had gotten an urgent call and rushed out with a face full of dread.
Judging by the look on his face, Sophia had delivered the message beautifully.

“Did Edward finally confess?”
Jerry’s eyes lit up, and he burst out laughing.
“Wow, how’d you know that?”
Charlie also looked intrigued and took a seat nearby, curious to hear her explanation.
Candice said, “Just a guess.”
“The night you interrogated Edward, you already knew he locked me up.
I even gave you guys the internal recording from the factory that pointed to two ‘ghost workers‘ drawing fake salaries.
Nick also admitted to being in the room where I was held.
Logically, the case should’ve been closed within hours–there was solid evidence.”
“But I knew it wasn’t that simple—because Nick was acting strange.”
“If they were just regular accomplices, he would’ve cracked the moment Edward confessed.
But he wasn’t afraid at all.”
“He was so confident Edward wouldn’t betray him.
The only explanation is that they had a prior agreement–one takes the fall to protect the other.”
“Or worse, they planned the whole thing from the start.
Once I went missing, you’d start digging.
Edward would then step up as the fall guy, and no one would suspect Nick, the real mastermind.”
“The CEO wouldn’t have the time or energy to keep chasing a case that seemed resolved.”
She finished speaking.
Charlie had listened intently until the last sentence, at which point he frowned slightly.
“Miss Hale, don’t sell yourself short.
If you were missing, I wouldn’t stop chasing.”
