Chapter 45 Misunderstanding
“I’m not exactly generous, and I don’t have a habit of letting strangers hitch a free ride on my plane. So what should I do…”
Charlie said offhandedly, watching Kyle’s face darken with frustration and that sour look of swallowing his pride. Then he suddenly chuckled and changed his tone, “Tell you what–since we’re both from Vanclyn, I’ll give you the market price. Just remember to transfer the money, Mr. Jackson.”
He spoke like a charitable saint, the kind who dispensed kindness from on high.
Kyle was fuming his lungs nearly exploded.
But there was nothing he could do. He had no choice but to endure it. After all, he needed a ride on Clemens‘ damn plane.
Candice pretended she hadn’t heard their exchange.
Deep down, she mused: Kyle probably hasn’t taken this kind of humiliation since the day he was born. In the past, he would’ve walked away with a sneer rather than take this crap.
Kyle turned to glance at her: I’m only doing this for you.
Candice caught the meaning in that look and sneered. Enduring all this for her? Did he really think she’d be touched?
Save it!
Once aboard, she posted to her Moments.
A picture of the blue skies over the airport, the sunlit runway, and just barely visible in the background–a candid shot of Kyle taken inside the VIP lounge.
Caption: Lovely vacation interrupted. So annoyed. How do you get rid of a clingy nuisance?
The tone had a bit of everything: three parts complaint, three parts smug shade, and four parts blatant provocation–like she was deliberately telling someone, See? The man you want still wants me.
Not long after she posted, Charlie glanced at her with a sudden shift in expression.
The atmosphere grew inexplicably heavy.
Candice blinked, confused.
She had posted it from her Vanclyn phone, hiding it from most contacts–family, friends… but she forgot one person: Jim also had her W******p.
The moment she posted, Jim saw it.
Seeing her “distressed” words and Kyle’s shadow in one of the photos, he thought she’d been kidnapped.
Panicking, he screenshotted it and sent it to Charlie, begging him to rescue poor Ms. Hale.
Poor?
She was clearly enjoying herself and showing off!
So… she was having fun with Kyle now? All her coldness and resistance had just been an act? Deep down, she wanted him back?
Charlie realized he had seriously underestimated this woman.
Candice felt uneasy under Charlie’s gaze.
Yes, she had posted that on purpose–to stir the pot, to add fuel to the fire. She wanted to provoke Mia Jones into taking desperate action.
“Do you want to get some sleep?” Kyle leaned over from beside her.

His voice was cold and merciless. “I had your brother pass on my message. If you still don’t get it, I’ll say it again: from now on, I want nothing to do with you. Don’t pester me again.”
Tears welled up in Mia’s eyes.
She wanted to tear Candice apart right then and there, but Anna’s words echoed in her mind, forcing her to suppress her fury.
“I’m not here to bother you anymore,” she said, tone soft and fragile. “I won’t interfere in your marriage with Candice again. I’ll do whatever you want. I’ll go back to being just your little sister Is that okay?”
Kyle’s expression eased slightly.
“As long as you’ve thought it through. Then please step aside. We’re leaving.” He wanted to send her off quickly–whatever game she was playing, he wasn’t interested. Better that than having her cause a public scene.
Mia sniffled pitifully and suddenly circled past Kyle, dropping to her knees in front of Candice with a thud.
Gasps rippled through the crowd.
Kyle’s temple twitched with fury. “Mia Jones! What the hell are you doing?!”
Candice, calm and poised, waved a hand. “Let her speak.”
‘Candice, please don’t be mad at Kyle–it was all my fault. I fell for him one–sidedly. I’ll break things off. I won’t bother him again. Just please don’t divorce him… I’m begging you.”
Tears streamed down her face. She looked utterly pitiable–so gentle, so understanding.
She was actually begging for him?
Kyle was stunned. Did she… actually mean it?
Candice laughed inwardly. Retreat to advance? Who taught her that move? With her brain, it certainly wasn’t her own idea.
“If you want something, you have to show sincerity. How about this–slap yourself a hundred times. If you can turn your face into a pig’s head, I’ll consider your request.”
Kyle turned to look at her, shocked.
Mia’s eyes flashed with anger but then quickly filled with hope. Perfect–let Kyle see how vicious this woman really is.
She bit her lip, closed her eyes, and started slapping herself.
Smack! Smack! Smack! The slaps echoed loudly.
Candice tilted her chin. “Did you not eat today? Hit harder.”
The crowd stared in disbelief.
Phones came out. Whispers started.
“You useless thing–can’t even slap yourself right.” Candice grabbed Mia’s chin, coldly sneering. “Let me show you how it’s done.”
She raised her hand and delivered four hard slaps in a row.
Just as she was about to land the fifth, Kyle grabbed her wrist. “That’s enough!”
‘Enough? She seduced you, destroyed our marriage, and tried to set me up–now I slap her a few times and you feel bad? Oh, I get it. I shouldn’t just slap her—you should get down on your knees and take a few too.”
Are you out of your mind?”

Not willing to kneel? Then let her suffer alone.”
Candice turned to the bruised, swollen Mia and similed brightly. “Any objections?”
Mia shook her head and crawled over to grab Candice’s other hand “You can hit me. It’s not Kyle’s fault. I’ll take his punishment for him.”
Candice stroked her hair. “Excellent.”
Then-
She yanked Mia’s head down and slapped her again.
Kyle didn’t even have time to stop it.
Mia’s body slumped to the side. She passed out. Blood trickled from the corner of her mouth.
*Mia!”
Kyle let go of Candice and rushed over to pick Mia up.
“Mia Jones, don’t play dead. You seduce a married man and you deserve to be slapped. I should strip you and parade you through the streets!” Candice’s tone grew even colder.
“Candice, you’re going too far!” Kyle shouted in rage.
He carried Mia to the car. “To the hospital!”
Terry opened the door for him and hesitated. “But Madam
“>
Bang! Kyle slammed the car door shut before he could finish.
Terry sighed and gave Candice an apologetic nod before driving off
The crowd’s attention shifted to Candice.
Some looked at her with sympathy–her husband had chosen the mistress over her.
Others saw her as vicious and terrifying, while the mistress appeared gentle, selfless, and heartbreakingly loyal–even after being beaten, she didn’t fight back.
Candice watched the car disappear down the road, a faint smirk playing on her lips.
Across the street, a few onlookers had parked just to watch the drama unfold.
Earlier, Jim had noticed Mia hovering at the exit–first agitated, then eerily calm.
Sensing trouble, he’d parked the car to observe.
Luckily, Charlie hadn’t objected–his silence was tacit permission.
In the back seat, Charlie watched the woman in the wheelchair–victorious, satisfied.
Now he understood the real meaning behind her Moments post.
“Young Master,” Jim said, “Should we go help Miss Hale?”
