Chapter 51 Not Only Scoring Dinner, But Also a Place at the Boss’s Penthouse
His tone dripped with sarcasm.
Candice felt a flare of anger rise in her chest.
This was her private life. Even if he had saved her, even if he was her boss, her marriage was no business of his he had no right to mock her like that.
But right now, confusion trumped the indignation.
“I never gave him the passcode. How did he get up here?”
From the gated community entrance, to building access, to the elevator controls–there were multiple security layers. How had Kyle gotten through?
Charlie’s expression shifted from icy mockery to suspicion when he heard this.
Kyle staggered toward Candice, the pungent smell of alcohol making her wrinkle her nose in disgust. “How did you get up here?”
“Are you sleeping with him?” Kyle suddenly barked, ignoring her question, both hands gripping the armrests of her wheelchair as his voice boomed like thunder.
Candice slapped him hard across the face. “Are you insane? Drunk out of your mind? Get out! Go find your little Candy–girl!”
Kyle didn’t get mad. On the contrary, he fell to his knees, grabbed the hand that had just slapped him, and placed it on his chest. One moment he was a roaring lion, the next he was a pitiful mess.
“I misunderstood,” he mumbled. “I know you wouldn’t… You still love me. You’d never do something like that to me…”
Candice stared at him, utterly speechless.
He could cheat on her without remorse, but she couldn’t even talk to another man?
She glanced at Charlie, still standing nearby like he was watching a drama unfold, then looked down at Kyle, who was now drunkenly sobbing at her feet.
God, could this night get any worse?
She tried to pull her hand back. “Let’s talk about this tomorrow, okay? Go home, sleep it off. When you’re sober, we can-

Before she could finish, Kyle suddenly hugged her tightly, pressing his face into her neck, repeating apologies as tears streame down into her collar.
Candice froze.
She didn’t even know how to describe what she felt. It was absurd. And… achingly pathetic.
This wasn’t the divorce drama she’d envisioned. Kyle had always been arrogant, hot–tempered, obsessive–this emotional wreck in front of her didn’t feel real.
“Let go, please. Just calm down, okay?” she said softly.
But the softer she spoke, the tighter he clung to her.
“Say you still love me,” Kyle bargained. “Say you won’t leave me.
Candice was losing patience.
Just then, Charlie, who’d been watching silently, pulled out his phone and made a call.

A few minutes later, the night shift property manager arrived with two security guards. Charlie pointed at the drunk man clutching Candice and said coldly, “He doesn’t live here. Get him out.”
The manager hesitated. “Mr. Clemens, please wait a moment. I’ll check the logs.”
There’s no way a non–resident could’ve gotten into a tenant’s home unnoticed.
After checking the system, he looked troubled. “Mr. Jackson is registered as a resident of the 20th floor. According to the surveillance, he was on his way upstairs when the elevator stopped on the 13th floor. Most likely, either you or Ms. Hale hit the up button, which is why the elevator stopped here. Just an unfortunate coincidence.”
What!
He bought a place on the 20th floor?
Candice’s head wasn’t just pounding–it was on the verge of exploding.
Was Kyle planning to stalk her forever?
Charlie also fell silent for a moment.
Then he calmly said to the manager, “In that case, please escort him back to the 20th floor.”
The manager nodded. It was a reasonable request. And besides, Mr. Clemens was the ultra–wealthy tenant from the top floor- no one would deny him.
He signaled the two guards to move.
Kyle was still on his knees, clinging to Candice. His large body practically enveloped hers, his face buried in her neck, quiet now except for the occasional sniffle.
The guards tried to pull him off, but Kyle wouldn’t budge.
Candice tried too, but it was like he’d fused himself to her.
Charlie stepped in. He grabbed Kyle’s arms and forcefully pried them off her. Kyle’s eyes snapped open, bloodshot and furious.
“Charlie Dominic Clemens!”
He staggered to his feet, lunged, and threw a punch. But he was so drunk the blow missed completely without Charlie even dodging.
The manager quickly motioned for the guards to restrain him.
“Get away from me!” Kyle shouted, pushing them aside.
“Mr. Jackson, please don’t cause a scene,” the manager coaxed gently. “You stopped at the wrong floor. Let us help you upstairs, okay?”
“Wrong floor? This is my wife’s home!”

‘… Huh?”
Everyone froze.
The manager blinked in confusion.
So did the two guards.
A man from the top floor was found in a woman’s home on the 13th floor. Then another man comes back, storms in, and claims she’s his wife?
this one from the 20th floor-

What kind of soap opera nightmare was this?
Charlie’s voice cut in coldly. “He’s delusional. If you don’t take him now, I’m calling the police.”

“…So he’s not Ms. Hale’s…?” The manager looked unsure and turned to Candice. “Ma’am, is Mr. Jackson your husband?”
“No. Get him out,” Candice said icily.
Kyle stared at her in disbelief, pain flooding his eyes.
It was obvious to anyone they knew each other. But since the 13th–floor tenant had denied it, and the 20th–floor tenant was clearly unstable, the safest option was to remove him before things escalated.
All three–manager and guards–joined forces and half–dragged Kyle into the elevator. He screamed, cursed, and pounded on the walls as the doors closed.
The sounds gradually faded as the elevator rose.
Candice finally let out a long breath.
Then her expression darkened again.
What if Kyle started waiting for her in the parking lot every time she came home? She couldn’t run–not with her leg still healing.
Selling the apartment and moving wasn’t practical.
“I’m curious,” Charlie’s voice broke the silence, “do you actually want the divorce or not?”
Candice blinked, surprised by the question. She looked up at his unreadable expression and answered truthfully, “If I didn’t want to divorce him, I could’ve just pretended I didn’t know about his affair. Turn a blind eye. But once I made my decision, I wasn’t going back.”
Charlie nodded slightly.
“Stay at my place for now. Have your friend hold off visiting. Jim will handle your meals. Just focus on healing.”
“…Stay with you?” Candice hesitated.
“You’d rather go through what just happened again? Or do you have a better plan?”
“…No.”
Kyle might be able to stalk her here, but he’d have no way of getting into Charlie’s place. It was a temporary solution, but at least it gave her space to recover.
“…Alright.”
Candice packed a few things and followed Charlie up to the penthouse.
Jim was already asleep.
Charlie arranged the guest room for her. “It’s late. Get some rest.
He left.
Candice lay in the unfamiliar bed, feeling like she was dreaming.
Not only had she scored a hot meal–she’d ended up living in her boss’s luxury penthouse.
The night passed in chaotic dreams.
The next morning, still groggy with sleep, her phone rang.
