Chapter 16
Someone whispered to Sebastian, “Your wife fell into the pool, but this young lady claims she was just acting. Even so, she seemed to have sunk just now. We’re not sure if it was part of the act or real…”
At those words, Sebastian’s expression changed drastically. Without even taking off his jacket, he jumped straight into the water and pulled Vivienne out.
Her face was as white as a sheet, and her eyes were closed. She appeared to be unconscious.
The crowd instantly fell silent.
Sebastian checked for her breath, then immediately began performing emergency CPR.
A few minutes later, Vivienne coughed up a large amount of water. The tense atmosphere around them slightly eased.
She slowly opened her eyes. Through her blurry vision, she saw a familiar, handsome face.
“Vivienne, are you okay?” Sebastian asked.
Her lips moved, but she only coughed violently again.
Sebastian looked up at the crowd. “Has anyone called an ambulance?”
“No… not yet…”
His tone was icy. “Call an ambulance.”
Before long, paramedics arrived. Sebastian carried Vivienne into the ambulance himself and left with her.
After everyone had left, Melanie turned to Mia and asked, “Mia, what happened? How did Vivienne suddenly fall into the pool?”
Mia curled her lips. “What else could it be? That bitch followed us to the banquet. She saw that Sebastian went to see you, got jealous, and faked it all!”
Melanie frowned slightly. “She faked it?”
“Of course! I ran into her in the back garden. She seemed to be looking for Sebastian, so I told her to wait, since you had twisted your ankle and he was helping you apply medicine. But as soon as she heard that, she exploded!
“You know how Vivienne’s been acting lately. It’s like her fuse was cut short. Her words were sharp and unpleasant, so we started arguing. Then, she suddenly said she’d teach us a lesson. Before I could even react, she jumped straight into the pool!
“Melanie, you saw it yourself. After Sebastian pulled her out, he did CPR and gave her mouth–to–mouth. That was clearly what she was aiming for from the start!”
Mia gestured dramatically, her tone full of indignation and exaggeration.
“She deliberately created a scene to win sympathy and get close to Sebastian. Then, she’ll twist the story, put the blame on me, and force me to apologize.”
The more she talked, the more convinced she became of her story. She even started to believe it herself.
“Vivienne is the very definition of a two–faced angel reborn. She’s manipulative to the core!”
Melanie’s eyes flickered slightly. “But… judging from the way Vivienne looked, it didn’t seem like she was pretending.”
Mia sneered. “Melanie, you’re too kind–hearted for your own good. If yo
swim back up herself.”
and Sebastian had arrived a few minutes later, she would’ve had to drop the act and
She continued defending herself, “If she wasn’t faking, then why didn’t a single person at the edge of the pool attempt to help her? That’s because everyone could teli she was putting on a show!”
Melanie frowned slightly.
Mia noticed her expression. She bit her lips and said in a quieter voice, “Melanie, I’m sorry. I just couldn’t stand how arrogant Vivienne was, so I told her about Sebastian helping you.”
Then, she looked at Melanie nervously. “Melanie… what if Vivienne twists everything and tells Sebastian that I pushed her in on purpose?”
Melanie was silent for a few seconds before responding calmly, “If that happens, I’ll explain it to Sebastian.”
Only then did Mia break into a relieved smile.
A day later, Vivienne finally regained consciousness. Although she was out of danger, she had swallowed a lot of water and was still in poor condition.
The moment she opened her eyes, the first thing she saw was a sharply handsome face.
Seeing that she was awake, Sebastian asked in a deep voice, “How are you feeling? Any better?”
Vivienne replied weakly, “No.”
Her head was spinning, and her vision dimmed in and out. Her body felt drained of strength, and she alternated between hot and cold. Even speaking made her feel
breathless and suffocated.
It had been a long time since Vivienne had felt this weak
Looking at her pale and delicate face, Sebastian said, “Jason just left a short while ago. He said he’ll come to see you again during the evening banquet.”
Vivienne responded with a faint and emotionless, “Oh.”
Seeing that, Sebastian called for the doctor to check on her.
When the doctor saw Vivienne, he let out a heavy sigh.
“Ms. Moore, I told you when you were discharged last time that you needed to take better care of yourself. It’s only been a little over a month, and now you’re back in the hospital again. Even if you’re young, you can’t keep pushing yourself like this.”
Sebastian’s gaze flickered slightly as he looked at the doctor. “She was hospitalized?”
“You didn’t know?” The doctor turned to him, surprised. “Aren’t you her husband? How could you not know she was hospitalized?”
“When was this?” Sebastian asked.
“Just last month,” the doctor replied. He had been the one to resuscitate Vivienne then–and now again–so he had a vivid impression of her. “She nearly didn’t make it that time.”
