The comments kept coming.
“She’s done far worse than that. I heard from someone that she’s a proud and arrogant lady. Not long ago, Mr. Holt’s grandma was so angered by Mrs. Holt that she was hospitalized.”
“Didn’t she sleep her way into marrying Sebastian? Who gave her the audacity to act so righteously?”
“Getting Sebastian to many her was already a win. It’s so hard for people in our country to get a divorce. As long as she refuses to get a divorce, Sebastian would also have his hands tied.”
“Oh, I finally understand why Sebastian is still in touch with his first love. If I had a wife like her, I wouldn’t want to see her as well.”
“Mr. Holt, hurry up and divorce her. You should be with Ms. Schafer instead!”
Before Vivienne could finish reading the comments, her phone rang. When she saw the caller ID, her expression shifted subtly, and she quickly answered the call. “Hello, Vivienne,” Spencer’s low and gentle voice came out from the other end.
Vivienne held her phone and answered gently, “Hello, Spencer.”
“I’m sorry, My grandfather has been hospitalized for the past few days. I’ve been so busy taking care of him at the hospital that I couldn’t find the time to contact you,” Spencer explained.
“I should be apologizing to you…” She paused momentarily before she continued, “Is your grandpa doing alright?”
“Yes, he’s doing much better now.”
After a moment of silence, he asked, “Vivienne, I’ve seen the news. Do you want me to help you suppress the news for the time being?”
“There’s no need for that. I already have a plan on how to handle it.”
Spencer had grown up with Vivienne, so he knew just how capable and independent she was.
Hearing her words, he did not press any further. Instead, he asked, “Vivienne, do you have time tomorrow? It’s been so long since we last met. I’d like to meet up with you for a talk”
She agreed to his invitation. So, after they had set a time and date, she ended the call.
Spencer had already been waiting inside the restaurant when Vivienne arrived the next day.
She walked toward him and apologized, “I’m sorry for being late, Spencer.”
Spencer got up and pulled her chair out for her. “Don’t worry about it. I arrived earlier.”
Then, he paused momentarily before looking at Vivienne with a complicated expression. “Vivienne, why do I feel like you’ve become slightly distant? Is it because we haven’t met for a long time?”
Back when they were much closer, Vivienne would never apologize formally, even if she was tardy.
Not to mention, she hadn’t even been late today.
Lowering her gaze, Vivienne apologized, “I’m sorry. Back then, I had been too stubborn and took a lot of things for granted.”
No matter what she did back then, Spencer would always be patient with her, even if she was in the wrong.
Spencer said gently, “Vivienne, you don’t have to be so formal with me. You just need to be the little princess you’ve always been. If I could choose, I’d wish you’d never grow up.”
“People would have to grow up eventually,” Vivienne replied as she shook her head.
He looked at the woman before him who seemed familiar yet distant and sighed.
“Vivienne, Jason has told me about everything that has happened. I’m sorry that I failed to protect you, causing you to suffer through so much pain. I thought he’d treat you well once you married him.
even meant that I’d become the villain-”
“If I knew how he would end up treating you, I would have never stepped aside Vivienne interrupted him, explaining, “Spencer, it’s all in the past. I’m doing fine Spencer looked at Vivienne intently. He was just about to say something when a
